Lake Bells tits 1
Mascherano on the bench, Tevez on the bench.... HBA on the bench.. That would work if if we'd gone a whole season with little involvement in terms of Ben Arfa playing. And if Ben Arfa's transfer was dodgy. Except he has played, it's only December and people are looking for conspiracies because he chose to play Vuckic and the Ameobis instead. Yes he may be talanted but players do have different roles and maybe Pardew felt the aforementioned subs were more suited to what he wanted. In retrospect I imagine he realises that perhaps Ben Arfa might have a better option. He'll probably play the next game and some people will feel a little silly. Half a season though, and this is a player referred to by pardew as a "talisman" player and "able to do things noone else can". Suddenly he has a bench of youngsters in front of him in the pecking order? Im curious as to what is going on is all.
David Kelly 1217
Pardew said there were no pockets of space for Ben Arfa to work in, so thought deep crosses would work instead-hence SAmeobi and Shola. All well and good as an excuse for Shola's appearance...doesn't explain to me why Best started though. Was surprised to see him getting some praise in the match thread, thought he was pretty much gash. Unsurprisingly I agree with you HF. Best added noting at all (much the same has he's been since the first few games). On Pardew saying that he thought deep crosses would work better, that would work great if Shola was any good in the air and Sammy could kick a ball with his right foot (fairly essential for someone you're wanting to put crosses in from the right!). Anyway Pardews view seems to be the complete opposite to that of everyone else watching the game!

Lake Bells tits 1
1-2 more wins and ashley can pretty much sell 2-3 players for 50 mill in January and still avoid relegation, probably end 11-14th. Sign a few freebees and the odd "release clause fuckup" in the summer - rince and repeat. He`ll have a debt-free club free of charge within 4-5 years. toonotl 2928
To be fair to Pardew and Ashley as well really. Every player we have sold/let go recently has not exactly been tearing the league to shreads at their new clubs, with the possible exception of Enrique. But he made his choice not to be here and that is that as far as I'm concerned. I'm all for some Ashley bashing but this kind of stuff, about selling all our best players and tumbling down the league, when in hindsight there is no real precedent for any such fire sale, makes you look rather silly. It reads as perfect satire and that can never be a good thing if you're trying to be genuinely serious.

Christmas Tree 4672
ALAN Pardew is adamant he retains every faith in Newcastle United’s mercurial talent Hatem Ben Arfa – as he dismissed suggestions of a fall-out between the St James’ Park management and the France forward. The inexperienced Sammy Ameobi was preferred to Ben Arfa as an impact substitute as Newcastle tried to break down determined Swansea on Saturday in a move which caused raised eyebrows among the United support. It extended Ben Arfa’s first-team exile to two games, the 24-year-old having been hauled off at half-time following an insipid 45 minutes against Chelsea. The forward’s form has been up and down since he returned from the second of two serious injuries in September and, with even Pardew admitting the player could be difficult to manage, questions about his frame of mind are only to be expected. However, Pardew says it is a problem of form and sharpness rather than personality that is plaguing Ben Arfa. The United boss said: “I know there have been suggestions on Twitter and other rumours he is not happy here but it is just not true. “He is fine, he knows he is not at his best yet and the stats in the game he has played I would expect better from him because of what a good player he is. “It is not about his relationship with the other players, you are looking too deeply into this, he is just a player who needs more time. “He will find his best form before the end of the season but how quickly that is I don’t know. “I will use him as I see fit, I did not use him on Saturday because I did not think the situation was right. Simple as that.” In a message which will soothe fears Ben Arfa is out in the cold, Pardew insists his absence is more about United’s poor form than any specific problem with his high-profile France international, and he insists he still has room for the “exceptional” Ben Arfa – possibly starting tomorrow night with the visit of West Brom. Pardew added: “He is an individual character in terms of his personality on the pitch. “But in terms of that we still have situations where we need to be at full tilt to put him in the team and we are not quite there at the moment. “Of course, it did not help we had defensive injuries because that has affected Hatem as well. To lose your three first-choice centre-halves for the Norwich game is difficult because Hatem is the type of player you need a strong base to bring out the best in him and to protect ourselves. “Saturday was the first time since Manchester United we looked like a solid team. “We were a lot better (on) Saturday and the chances of him being involved on Wednesday are a lot higher because of how strong we looked defensively against Swansea. “We looked like our old selves.” Pardew appears to feel a player like Ben Arfa is a bit of luxury when his team are struggling for defensive shape and few could argue with a manager who has been sharp on strategy and systems all season. Having come through the defensive problems that plagued them at Norwich, the team may be nigh for him to return. “I don’t think it is a case of accommodating him,” he said. “We look different when he is in the side and it needs to turn into a positive for us which I think it can do. “Fingers crossed for Hatem that happens for him and us because if we can get him back to his very best we have an exceptional player.” Meanwhile, Pardew has dismissed rumours emanating from Merseyside that striker Andy Carroll might be heading back to St James’ Park 12 months after his £35million January move. In a categoric denial the former Benton Academy graduate might return to his boyhood club, the manager said: “There has been no dialogue at boardroom level or managerial level between us and Liverpool.” From Journal. donaldstott 0
Got to say I read those quotes from Pardew on skysports and agree 100%. Ben Arfa is definitely not up to speed yet. From what we have seen, he gave the ball away far too often in daft places and we would have been further exposed in the games he hasn't played. Lake Bells tits 1
How the hell can he get up to speed when he is rotting on the bench? Is there way to get into shape from the sidelines, if so tell me? Best is hardly pulling up trees is he, and Obertan is like a headless chicken. He has been out with a broken leg for a year, and had a few games. Now he is told to come up a level? We are willing to play obertan week in week out to no avail, and Sammy and Vukcic has hardly set the world alight have they? Frankly I don't really care if HBA is eating mars bars behind the bike sheds and stealing Pards porn mags. He starts. He's more dangerous than Obertan. Guti and Best Tecato I demand an answer. donaldstott 0
He can work on his fitness, confidence and touch in training. You are right that he needs matches to complete his recovery, but that shouldn't be to the detriment of results. Obertan, and Best for that matter, helped get us in to the position where we can go 5 games without a win and still be in a respectable place at xmas. Aeris 0
Obertan an important piece in our road to success? Playing undercover as the opponents 12th man and defensive midfielder, and giving away those balls like everyday was christmas, think of what we could've achieved without him! I just happen to strongly disagree with you Thing is LBT, his position is backed up by evidence, yours isn't supported by anything more substantial than your fervour. Ben Arfa could drive this club onto great things, equally he could fail. Pardew has explained that physically HBA isn't ready for the Premier League yet, and tactically it was ill advised when the space he needs to operate in wasn't available against Swansea. So your relentlessly moaning is as tedious as it is baseless. Now, shush.
Lake Bells tits 1
What facts? There are no more facts supporting the claim that Obertan has helped us to our current league position than the opposite? My personal view is that we have snatched points despite the fact that he is on the pitch. He is shite. Also, you quote pardew`s statement that there was no space available vs swansea as if it was a car park with no available slots. Who knows what Ben arfa could have conjured up. Ben Arfa could fail yes, so could every other player. Pardew seems to prefer hard-working players with a good attitute to sheer talent with less of the former. Which is perhaps understandable, but with Sammy and Obertan performing like they do, he should start ahead of them. Because he is graced with more skill.
