LeazesMag 0
for the want of a better thread title - how many of these people who are backing Mike Ashleys prudency/business methods/using the club as a vehicle for Sports Direct/lack of investment in the team [call it what you like] actually go to games and spend their cash on watching the club. My point is that, those who view the club from afar - and I'm not saying everybody who views the club from afar because some share the views of myself and others about him and how he is running this club - appear to be more able to accept the lower ambitions and expectations that are now imposed on this football club. Is it because, as they are not spending their money on watching the team, they find it easier to either take it or leave it and forget about the result on a saturday or sunday night etc ? Or is it because they generally aren't so committed ? Most of the match goers appear to have more desire to see a winning team on the pitch rather than a "business" , which reflects their different priorities for the club. Just a thought.......I'd like to add more, but just now can't put into words what else it is......see how the responses go. Maybe a poll, or an indicator of who and who doesn't attend matches on a fairly regular basis will give a clearer picture. Toonpack 9945
I think there was a poll recently that showed very few were "apologists". "Realists" now that'd be a different thing.

LeazesMag 0
I think there was a poll recently that showed very few were "apologists". "Realists" now that'd be a different thing. realistically, 5 years or so ago, replacing the Halls and Shepherd with better would be very difficult. However, the vast majority thought otherwise. Your man has still to get anywhere near matching them, never mind bettering them. Anyway, I've asked you a serious genuine question in the other thread, I hope you can find it in yourself to answer it truthfully and honestly. And - as per this thread - how many games have YOU attended in the last 2 years or so. Edited December 9, 2011 by LeazesMag
Guest alex
Thing is though Leazes, you argument is slightly disingenuous. What people wanted was someone to take over who could take the club forward in a way the old regime couldn't have. Even before the global financial crisis they were struggling to recover from letting Souness spunk £50m up the wall. Compared to their own previous highs it's pretty certain (imo at least) that they would have looked like failures in comparison. Of course, the fact that someone with Ashley's money came in and made things even worse is a sad indictment on his running of the club too. Can't think of one contentious word in amongst that, which makes it even more tragic that 70% of threads end up turning to the usual drivel because of one person's agenda. On the pitch, yes for a short while, off the pitch it's not even close. Eventually one begets the other. The "low" was still hugely higher than it likely would have been (IMO)

ChezGiven 0
Why ask a question Leazes when you never actually listen to a response if it doesnt fit with your point of view. One thing i will say, i reckon i've spent about the same as you so far this season on a pro rata basis on following the team. Bad week to put that sort of shit over with me. Baggio 0
I'm quite enjoying us pushing for European qualification with a group of players that appear to be wanted by what the press consider the big 6. A big improvement over what we had and where we were when he took over. Fingers crossed we can keep progressing but we could do with the financial fair play rules to be enforced strongly for that to happen, since he's turned around what was a financial mess into a break even one. Sorry to mention this again like, but the usual bog standard response from you demands this reply. You have answered the question in the thread. You don't go to games, therefore you can take the club or leave it, and have different priorities to spending your cash going to games and hoping only to win as many as possible. You don't feel happy or pissed off in the club or pub after the game, you just switch to another TV channel. You still don't answer my question about the transfer deadline. I know you said he is "recouping" but it goes deeper than that.

Don't make presumptions, some people don't like it, and may scold you for it, and we can all make presumptions. In the long run, I stand by my views and how I see the future, as I have done for the last number of years. You will see. There may be more match tickets for your selective viewing in another year or two by the way. Fat lot of good that will do for the accounts, unless he sells another player to recoup the lost money of course. IF there wasn't a regime change there is absolutely no way the club could have been able to carry on spending like it did on borrowed money. We wouldn't be competing with the top 4 either, anyone with half a brain and a bit of common sense can see that regardless of going to games or not. (I just did it again an all) Not what I was saying tbh. I didn't see us getting relegated under the last lot though and without that we wouldn't have made the huge losses in the Championship. Anyway, it's all rather moot but my point stands about your selective quoting. I mean, call me insecure if you like but I find it a bit odd if you agree with most of a post to concentrate on the bit you disagree with even if it obviously isn't the main point being made. Says a lot about someone that.

As this is relevant to the thread. I'd say I've missed about a dozen home games in the last 3 years, which is down to time and family commitments. Also away days at the midlands clubs if I can get a ticket and it's not on the telly. If I don't travel then I'm more than happy for someone to use my seat for nothing, as I've done with a few over on N-O in the past.

I know you said he is "recouping" but it goes deeper than that. No it's not, you are so misguided it is untrue. As for my priorities, it's a "time" thing not a cash thing and Oh yes I do get pissed off after a game (although this season not so much, and I see them all) I just don't happen to go to the pub (or the match). I believe he is recouping, what more is there to say. The taking profits/vehicle for SD is bollocks IMO, it doesn't stack up. (if that's what you are referring to). You talk about "pocketing" all the time as a very bad thing, (not that the current owner is) yet the irony of you, of all people, taking that position in itself zero's your credibility
