Sonatine 11374
I'm sure there's a few crocks, cripples or crackpots out of contract we could sign as cover until the end of the season. Bound to be a midfield equiavlent of Shefki Kuqi knocking around.
StoneColdStephenIreland 74
Shame has played pretty well over the past few games he's been in and havent been missing the presence of Tiote as much as i thought we would

acrossthepond 877
He finally starts to come good and then gets crocked when we need him most. Typical NUFC
Matt 0
We're getting weaker with every passing match, seeing the likes of Perch and Lovenkrands in the side is a miserable prospect.
JonTheMag 4
Would a midfield of Cabaye - Ben Arfa work at all? Would have to have Cabaye play a much less forward game than he does now, but I think he could do a job as a holding midfielder, at least against Norwich. Kid Dynamite 7025
With Ben Arfa playing as a CM we may as well play with 1 in the middle. Any manager worth his salt would play 3 through the middle and destroy us. Expect to see Smith getting a start.
JonTheMag 4
Id rather play Gosling in the middle over Smudger.
Kid Dynamite 7025
On the plus side, Colo might be fit apparently. Krul Taylor Simpson Colo Santon Obertan Gosling Cabaye Jonas Barfa Ba Easily good enough to beat Norwich
Holden McGroin 6583
Colo being fit will be a huge boost. However, I still think Perch will get the nod with Santon on the bench.
JawD 99
DANNY GUTHRIE is set to quit Newcastle United this summer after turning down a contract offer. Newcastle have tabled a new deal for the former Bolton man, who will be free to leave on a Bosman at the end of the season, but the Sunday Sun can reveal his advisers are looking for better terms. United believe they have made him a competitive offer in line with his value to the club, but Guthrie – who is represented by powerful agent Struan Marshall – looks set to assess his options in the summer months. Aston Villa and Wolves have both looked at him and because he will be available for nothing, Alex McLeish may be able to better the terms on offer at St James’ Park. Guthrie has repeatedly insisted he would like to stay, but he is understood to be unhappy at being axed from the team in favour of first-choice midfield pairing Yohan Cabaye and Cheick Tiote. United have already begun planning what they will do if Guthrie leaves, and ran the rule over Barnsley’s Jacob Butterfield in January. The England under-21 man has rejected the offer of a new contract from the Tykes – although Toon would need to pay compensation for his services. The Sunday Sun understands Newcastle have reservations because of a serious knee injury from the turn of the year. The club gambled on Sylvain Marveaux and Dan Gosling in similar circumstances and neither has worked out so far. Meanwhile, the club will look to re-negotiate Cabaye’s contract next season as they bid to keep the core of their side together. Cabaye was signed on a lucrative five-year deal in June and has impressed in his first year in the Premier League, attracting the attention of scouts from Manchester United and Arsenal. United are not looking at rewarding him just yet, but will look at the situation in 2013 – in line with their general policy of re-negotiating when a player is playing above themselves. Managing director Derek Llambias explained the club’s thinking on contracts: “We try to give ourselves two years. Once they come up to two years we’ll sit down with their agents.” I suppose the difference is we pay him and likely offering him a structure based on him being a sub. He wants first team football and somewhere like Villa he'd get that and a package for a starter.
OTF 7295
Pretty crappy that we've let his contract run down. He'd command a decent fee if he had some time to run on his contract. Can see why he'd want to go somewhere where he will be able to hold a starting place.

Monroe Transfer 0
Can't blame him for wanting to try his luck elsewhere, not guaranteed he'd start at Villa though either tbf. Edited March 18, 2012 by Monroe Transfer
jaythesouthernmag 0
Wolves? Villa? Good luck then, he's not as good as Cabaye or Tiote so needs to accept his place in the pecking order. He was total wank before Pardew came in. I would let him go and Gosling too and hopefully get a couple in who can push for a starting place. The deal for the French kid sounds like its done too, also got Vukic waiting in the wings too
Ally 0
Guthrie has been decent this year but that can't disguise the fact he's been thoroughly average for the previous 4. He's an ok player but nout special and certainly not irreplaceable as a squad player.

JawD 99
I'd be happy to let him and Gosling go and bring one player in who is better than both.
PaddockLad 17252
Forced out a la Barton....offer a piss take of a contract and then see what happens. Fair enough, but these they're looking at have got go be better than the player being shown the door. No one has truly come through and claimed the right midfield spot that Barton had for various reasons. Vukic looks ok but is possibly the slowest teenager I've ever seen. Monroe Transfer 0
*Vuckic Why do you only look at it from the most cynical angle, Paddocklad? Maybe the offer isn't great but I'm sure his lack of playing time bothers him a lot too. He's 25 in a month, I think he realises now that he's not going to make it past Cabaye/Tiote and at that age you want to move on because a footballer's career is not very long.
