I used to have at least three every year. Of course they were never called Christmas parties but non-offensive terms like Annual Dinner and Winter Event.

Since changing jobs this year I don't think I'm having one.

Had it last Friday, managed to wangle my way into the Berlin office's do to avoid having to go to smelly Offenbach. Eight of us around a table at a small-food-on-big-plates restaurant, silly amounts of wine, then off to a pub until 4am with vodka shots and my boss practically forcing me to steal a Newcastle Brown Ale glass. Happy days.

my big xmas party is usually quite funny. about six to eight hundred people who never mix all rubbing shoulders together in the spirit of the christmas piss up. it's funny seeing old hacks rubbing shoulders with pr and commercial staff. all the free booze and canapes you can stomach. it's always funny when you spot the old boy reporter you always thought was a bit straight laced doing the bump and grind with one of the young hotties from the comms team at 2am.

i love this time of year at work. this week is the last proper week of graft. next week it's all liquid lunches and fucking to the pub early. no one wants to be in the office and we all fuck off early unless something massive breaks.

thinking about it I don't think I went last year as it was in some shit social club, but the year before it was £25 each for a 3 course meal and a free bar 6pm - 2am in some hotel, I made the most of that

We're having 'nibbles' in the office this year on the last day of work which will be as shit as it sounds. Not arsed this year anyway as I'm off the drink and on baby watch and should (touch wood) be on paternity leave for the exciting nibbles event anyway, thank fuck.

Normally avoid them like the plague, even when I'm coerced into attending I'll fuck off early and go somewhere better.

This year I can't go as I'm working nights.

Mind, might take a bottle of wine in for Christmas night itself... won't feel right being stone cold sober on that of all nights. So if any of you lot are in London, fucking behave yourself, all right?

Not having one for the full firm but my team are going to Lumley Castle for some Casino Night thing. Been paid for for months and I've enough set aside for some drinks on the night so should be ok hopefully.

Supposed to be having mine tomorrow but don't think I'll be attending. I'm currently suffering from a mother fucker of a cold - One where I can't breath for shit through my nose and I wake up in the night gasping for air feeling claustrophobic and with a mouth resembling Gandhi's flip flop. Nobody has ever felt this ill. Ever.

I'm off to Berlin in February for 2 nights and 3 days. Would you be able to recommend me a cheap hotel around the city centre? Doesn't have to be anything fancy at all as we'll only be using it for sleep and will be out and about for the majority of the trip. Cheap but cheerful as they say.

Self-employed so I am going to have a day on the cowies with mesel.

we were meant to go and have a party on a boat on the mersey but they wanted £50 each for it so think we're just gonna have a night out on the 17th

You've narrowly missed seeing Toughguymick/TannedDave dying on his arse there mate.

We are taking the lads we've worked with this year out on the 17th for a meal and then drink til you drop.

Quite looking forward to it, haven't had a proper session in ages.

To be honest mate I almost always stay with friends there, so I don't really know much about hotels. I was there on a stag weekend a few months ago though, where we stayed at this massive hostel out east - http://www.generatorhostels.com/en/berlin/ - which was absolutely fine for the money and the purpose (and has a decent bar), but it might be a bit too basic and not central enough for what you're after. People seemed happy enough with it though.

Looking at chain stuff, I see there's three Ibis hotels in what I'd call the city centre - "Mitte", "City Ost" and "Potsdamer Platz" at http://www.ibishotel.com - they're usually a decent bet if you can get an alright price.

Ours isn't until Dec 22nd, I guess we'll all feel a bit more Christmassy by then. It'll be our three offices getting together at a country pub for the usual traditional pub Christmas fare, hope they've got a good winter ale on.

Last Christmas do I had at work was at the hotel near Madisons when I did a YTS course in 1991 for a company in Newburn/Lemington. I've worked for some decent companies but every fucking one just didn't make any effort for Christmas.
