Alex 35120
I love It's a Wonderful Life. I even like White Christmas which is absolutely cheese-tastic. Obviously Die Hard is mint. As is the original Miracle on 34th Street. Then there's A Christmas Carol starring Alistair Simm as Scrooge. I suppose In Bruges counts too. Not forgetting National Lampoons. Then if you want a proper laugh with the family there's always Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence.
Christmas Tree 4729
So, other candidates for the Xmas Toontastic Top Ten Xmas Films. So far I think its a given that Love Actually, Its a Wonderful Life and Die Hard get in. Personally I would also hoy in Hairspray, Mamma Mia and any one of the Buddies movies, although Snow Buddies takes some beating. Ideally a bond and good war film should be in there. Alex 35120
CT, as camp as Christmas. Is Mama Mia meant to be a wind-up btw? The film itself that is, I'm sure it's a sincere nomination.
Meenzer 15560
We urgently need to define whether a "Christmas film" has to be set during the Christmas period or whether it's merely the kind of thing that tends to be on the telly at Christmas. This thread risks descending into anarchy otherwise.
Meenzer 15560
If it wasn't for Coyote Ugly, Mamma Mia would be basically the worst film I've ever seen.

But if you dont like the music you probably aint going to like the film. Personally I think its a bit of a throwback to a good old English romp / farce. I love Greece and it looks nice on the film but you could get that from a Georges Meis calendar. I've actually sat through most of it on Xmas day (think it was on about 3 years ago). Sweet baby Jesus!

Gemmill 44993
Mamma Mia and Hairspray are neither Christmas films, nor the sort of thing that will be on at Christmas. Unless you're at Louis Spence's house for the festive period.

I used to like them when I was about 4. It's the shit singing I don't get. The storylilne as well. Just seems like a piss-take. Loads of people I know have said they loved it though. I don't mind some old school musicals, Singing in the Rain etc. And incidentally, CT: the Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence line was a joke, in case you stick it on with the wife and kids after the Queen's Speech Edited November 20, 2012 by Alex
Meenzer 15560
It's the shit singing I don't get. Aye, that's one of the main problems. I like Abba, but if I want Abba I'll listen to Abba, not bloody Pierce Brosnan.
Christmas Tree 4729
One of the funniest films of all time, The meaning of life. Every sperm is indeed sacred. Don't stand there gawkin' like you never seen the hand of God before!

Alex 35120
Anyone out for the match on the Saturday before Xmas btw? It's the only home game until after New Year. Not even sure if I'll bother getting a ticket tbh but I'll be up for few bowls of loudmouth soup, as manc-mag would say. He's on about coming as well. Won't be up until early January, more's the pity. New Year's resolution really needs to be to get to more home games.
