Kevin S. Assilleekunt 1
Tiote isn't actually that good a tackler, he ends up booked most games as a result. He also dithers on the ball occasionally (one of the few flaws in his game), and can squander possession as a result. Playing him at centre-half could be a disaster. Aeris 0
So people settle for Kadar and Perch or?... I personally think we can benifit from using Guthrie now when he has started looking good, maybe we'll just go for one striker and put Tiote behind Guthrie and Cabaye as an extra safety for the fuck-up CB's. Phil 6
Perch was at fault for the first goal, but other than that I thought he did alright against. Him and Williamson (if fit) are probably our only option.
Kevin S. Assilleekunt 1
Why was Perch at fault? Because he was beaten in the air by one of the best headers of a ball in the PL? Surely the player who left Mata unmarked at the throw-in was equally if not more culpable than him.
JonTheMag 4
Could do something like   -------------Ba Jonas------------------Obertan ---------Ben Arfa--Cabaye -------------Tiote    In front of the backline. Or swap Sammy in for Obertan. You'd have Tiote in there to act as a sweeper almost in front of the defence, and sit back even more than he does. Ben Arfa would play higher up, and Cabaye would be the link between the two.

Left Mata unmarked and gave away the penalty against Chelsea, and missed an interception against Man U that left Nani pretty much clear on goal -- luckily he fucked it up though! KeithJ 0
Sammi Ameobi on the right wouldn't be a bad idea, he can put in a shift defensively. I seen him do it for England U21s vrs Belgium. Â Is Tiote defo out vrs Norwich? Â To be fair I would be happy with a point as they aren't exactly a bad side and they have got some pretty good results. Maybe I am being rather pessimistic given our defensive situation when our attack is very much a solid one.

Howay 12496
I wouldn't mind us playing Guti at left back against Norwich tbh then playing R.Taylor or Santon (if he's not injured he surely has to have a chance now) at right back and a CB pairing of Simpson, Kadar or Perch Fuck me that's a dreadful back 4 but I really wouldn't mind seeing Gutierrez at left back and Sammy on the left wing. TicTacWoe 0
Ha! Grim situation to be potentially looking at an entire backline of full backs! To be fair though, most teams would struggle with 3 main centre backs out injured at once.
donaldstott 0
I don't see Jonas at left back. He can be more helpful putting a shift in helping Taylor. Â More likely Santon - Simpson - Perch - R.Taylor
Dr Gloom 21768
Whatever lineup we cobble together isnt looking good for the Christmas run in. The colo/Taylor pairing has been one of the main reasons we've been so solid. An ambitious owner would bust a gut to sign samba in January. Kid Dynamite 6973
The wisdom in this thread and the ben arfa thread man!  Ben arfa on the wing  Tiote at cb  Perch lost us the game  Don't worry about defending if your losing  Ben arfa is the most likely player to contribute to a goal, except he hasn't yet.
LeazesMag 0
Fucking gutted. Massive news. Trying to stay focussed on the fact that, albeit he's been performing brilliantly, he's not actually a brilliant defender and is basically experiencing the Colo effect. Provided we've a fit Colo I've got faith the person alongside him can do OK. Â I actually think Saylor is a bigger loss in terms of the fighting spirit he contributes . Really hoping that doesn't diminish in his absence. Â no understanding whatsoever of the needs and requirements of a central defender in this country, but I'm not surprised. I predicted all of this on Steve Wraith's show 0:59 onwards here http://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/toon-talk-with-steve-wraith/id330790262 26/9/11 that this would all happen, and it was squarely down to Ashley being a prick. I even made the point at some point we'd have to rely on Perch and this isn't acceptable. It's a disaster and what makes it worse is, we'd have picked up points on Saturday had it not been Drogba v Perch. More than ever this fat bastard has pissed me off, does he not fuckin understand football? Any decent centre half would have done as back up, Perch is League One standard, and this has been like a car crash waiting to happen for ages. Ayatollah Hermione 13762
tiote at centre half ffs  I can't believe people have spent a couple of pages actually discussing that most ridiculous of possibilities. If you need to be told the differences between a holding midfielder and a central defender and the differences in their jobs on the football pitch, you're beyond help. It'll be Perch and Simpson at the back and so it should be. Kadar hasn't played any first team football since the Championship and is probably fucking shit if we're being realistic and Williamson isn't fit. Perch has been fine even if he should have been tighter to Drogba. Luckily, nobody that plays for NORWICH is as good as Drogba ffs.
ewerk 30175
Bearing in mind that Norwich aren't great defensively then I'd like Pardew to concentrate more on the attacking side of our game and try to keep them on the back foot and keep the pressure of our defence that way. Yeah, that's what I was sort of getting at in the Ben Arfa (I think) thread. You have our first choice front 6 (minus Tiote, with Guthrie instead) and that should be enough to cause them problems. The back 4 isn't anything like ideal but I think you can compound the problems by trying to play too defensively, i.e. that's inviting pressure.
