Mobile Phone Contracts

My mobile phone contract is coming to the end in the middle of December and I am just looking at what to get next.

I am happy with my handset, its a Blackberry Curve and it does the job I want it to do.

I am currently with Orange and have been for 6 years now and I get unlimited texts and 500 mins. I have just checked my last 6 months and I havent go over 400 a month in texts and havent even touched a 100mins with my calls.

I havent got a clue about all the deals on etc at the moment and I am sure a few of you are.

Is it best staying contract given the little amount I use it? Do I go Pay as you Go? Ive heard of deals if you top up £X a month you get so many calls or texts?

/edit

Oh and I want to keep my number, if I choose to go away from Orange when do I ask for this?

I'm thinking of doing something similar.

With just the sim & the same contract but for a year I can save £20 a month, the handset I've got is decent enough & insured so they can tempt me all they want with flash phones but I'll take the sim for 12 months :)

just remember to watch out for how data works on those deals, if you're going to be needing it for that end of things (like your blackberry probably will wyki)

Aye, I dont use the data on my blackberry, I use the works one for that :D

i dont touch contract phones myself i had one once ages ago and it racked up a huge bill never doing that again. so really im sticking with pay and go or sim free where you top it up when you want to.

i personally think its better to buy a phone sim free put ya own sim card in it and thats it and top it up when you want. contract phones are really only good if you do alot of texting and phone calls etc and are working in a high paid job etc.

Been for a read of the faqs...

our Pay Monthly terms and conditions allow us to increase charges by up to the RPI figure in any 12 month period. The increase in the price plan charges is less than the 5.4% rate of inflation as measured by the Retail Price Index (RPI) in October 2011.

We can increase prices at any time on giving proper notice. In this case, the increase is less than the current rate of inflation and our terms and conditions state that we can do this without giving you the right to cancel your contract without paying the disconnection fee.

It's a fucking disgrace.

Got a canny deal today Blackberry Torch £21 a month, 1200 mins, 5000 texts, 1MB of net. 24 month contract, and when you think they're £380 to buy new THAT is a very canny deal. Haggled like fuck with this Indian call centre like, offer only up to Virgin Media customers. Nice one Branson. I'll use the minutes because I'll use it a lot for business too, texts probably use 1/5th and the net aye I'll use that. Just shows you, accept nothing, argue with everyone.

1MB of data won't get you too far. <_<

The fiancee got a similar deal to that about a year ago with O2. Couldn't believe it at the time. The phone has turned out to be shite though.

I wouldn't touch any 24mth deal these days. Phones tend to be outdated by 9-12months. Less if it's an iphone

I'm not one of these geeks though. I like to send texts, ring cunts, take videos, and watch the net. That's all I want on a phone, I don't want it to suck me off and buy me an all inclusive in Turkey!

with mine as well (google nexus S) the OS gets updated for free to the newest version of android anyway. Ive got this for another 9 months or so of a 24 month contract and its the only phone Ive not desperately wanted rid of in that time

On the subject of phones. Anyone with a Galaxy S2, avoid upgrading to ICS at all costs! My phone is as good as borked. Battery drains twice as fast, crashes every few hours and WiFi keeps freezing. Cant believe this is the official release and not some dodgy internet beta
