Guest alex
Seems to make the wrong decisions a lot (from what I've seen of him this year). Perhaps it's just a case of trying too hard / still adapting to the PL and the way Arsenal play. I wouldn't write him off yet like.
SloopJohn 0
He's a good player, and also seems to have that eye for goal that they haven't had in that area since Ljungberg. I think he'll be a success for them. An eye for goal? He can't finish for shit, he's missed at least 7 goals worth of chances so far this season I think we dodged a bullet Youd rather have obertan than him? He didn't say that, did he? its called promoting discussion, if we've dodged a bullet on a right winger then I assume hes supposedly considered not as good as our current one nice assumption but i never inferered anything of the sort. of course i'd take Gervinho over Obertan, but for 14m? no thanks as McFaul said, Gervinho has not delivered this season at all. as i live in London I have a lot of mates who support Arsenal and they're already getting agitated by his lack of end product...also I didn't say that he'd missed 7 goals worth of chances not 7 clear chances...that's probably being generous too
McFaul 35
laughing at a lot of the comments on this thread. £14m for a dud. Comparisons with VDV. At the end of the day Obertan cost £3m this shit mug cost £14m, he can't consistently do anything that will benefit the team, he doesn't even particularly work hard, and that's one thing you can't level at Obertan despite his ineptitudes. As I put in March and this morning, absolutely delighted he's not here, I wouldn't even want him on a Bosman. The person who said he's missed 7 easy opportunities this season? And the fucking rest, that dummy of the keeper was embarrassing just put the fucka in! He won't improve because he hasn't got the quality to improve. What do you think Wenger is playing at? Panic buy? He made a load of panic buys in my view. Arteta wasn't a Wenger signing, he's alright but he's no Fabregas, then again who is? Benayoun fair enough it's a loan, but he is a clear and present panic buy. They just sign players no other top club would, I mean Koscielny, you couldn't see Fergie entertaining the likes of him or Gervinho.

David Kelly 1260
He strikes me as a typical African type player. Good skill on the ball in terms of dribbling ability but without the composure or technical quality to make propper use of it. We've seen a very dfferent type of player coming to the premiership recently (Essien, Tiote, Song, Samba) who are a lot more tenchnically and tactically sound. Gervinho is more like a through back to a Camara or even Lua Lua type player. They can do something amazing but lack totally in consistancy so become unreliable. They might light up the fans every now and then but eventually you going to want a player who you know will do a job week in week out (especially when you're a club playing in Europe). I agree with Stevie that he along with Arteta, Benayoun & Santos are panic buys (I would add Mertesacker but I just think Wenger is incapable of spotting a quality centreback these days). None of them are really good enough to hold down positions in a top team (Arteta might be the exception to that but he's a definite drop in standard to Fabragas and Nasri). Tooj 17
Arteta was definitely a short-term stop gap due to the sale of Fabregas and Wilshere's injury. As when Wilshere's fit, it will be him, Ramsay and Song in the middle of midfield.
TicTacWoe 0
Considering the players they lost in the summer they've done alright despite the panic buys. They could well have won the league in recent years if van Persie had a proper run of games like he has this season and had the unspellable young pole in goal instead of that clown Almunia. Problem is, despite these improvements, the two best midfielders and left back went where the money/glory is so they're back where they started. Guest CabayeAye
Vintage Gervinho in the City match. Run aimlessly to the touchline, fall over, concede goal kick. Shoot from 25 yards, 25 yards over the bar. Before I got banned from N-O by the cuntish mods (mods here are sound), I said if he scores 10 goals this season I will drink piss. Fuck that, if he scores 10 goals for Arsenal in a season, EVER I will drink piss! He is sooooo shite!

As I said when we were after him in March, he puts the sh in shite. Henry never had a problem with basic technique and at cracking on 25 he's not a kid, that shot over the bar yesterday was cringeworthy to watch. The comparisons with Obertan....well to be fair at least Obertan gets a good ball in 1 in 4.

The other difference is that Henry's head doesn't look like a melon with a pair of 70s bead curtains glued to it. It's like the bead equivalent of a comb-over. I have no idea what his football's like, I can't get past the look of him, he's like an extra-terrestrial.

manc-mag 1
A lot of sense in what you say there Stevie, but at the same time a £3 million fee for us (in Obertan's case) isn't peanuts, it's a healthy whack given what we're shelling out these days. You on a Glasgow diet at the minute? No that is a fair comment but £14m would've been our entire budget, and I'm still not completely sold on the idea Obertan is going to be a total disaster he's very young and will improve.
