Monroe Transfer 0
On a free? http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/football/spl/2011/11/23/newcastle-set-to-swoop-for-celtic-skipper-scott-brown-as-talks-over-new-hoops-deal-break-down-86908-23582134/ NEWCASTLE UNITED are poised to snatch Scott Brown for free as the Celtic skipper comes to terms with the prospect of being forced out of Parkhead. The midfielder has agreed a new four-and-a-half-year contract with chief executive Peter Lawwell and had hoped to sign the deal which would have tied him to the club until the summer of 2016. But talks have broken down over a row about a fee due to Brown's advisers - and now Alan Pardew's Premiership high-flyers are hoping to cash in by landing the £4.4 million man for nothing on a Bosman transfer. Record Sport can also reveal that Dutch outfit Feyenoord and Bundesliga big guns Hamburg have been alerted to the player's situation and are weighing up offers. But Newcastle - whose stunning early-season form has catapulted them into the mix for Champions League qualification - are understood to be at the front of the queue. And they are ready to offer the 26-year-old a lucrative pre-contract in a bid to lure him south next summer. Brown was linked with a move to Tyneside at the end of last season, shortly after lifting the Scottish Cup - his first trophy success as Celtic captain. But he moved quickly to insist in an exclusive interview with Record Sport that he saw his future in Glasgow's East End and that his heart was set on signing a contract extension. He said then: "I've heard all the stuff about Newcastle but I haven't paid the slightest bit of attention to it. "I'm captain of Celtic, why would I even think about going anywhere else? "A few weeks ago I had the privilege of lifting my first piece of silverware since being given the armband 18 months ago. "I have a hunger to win more trophies as Celtic captain so that I can look back at my time with the club and consider myself to have been a success. "The club know how I feel and as long as the manager wants me here, then I don't see a problem in working out a deal." Manager Neil Lennon has also made it clear that he wants Brown signed up but there is no sign of an agreement being reached between Celtic and the player's advisers. In fact, sources close to the talks last night described them as "having hit a brick wall". Comments make him sound very average, and we're fairly well stocked in his department but getting him on a free is another matter. With that said, I have no idea how believable Daily Record articles are.
Andrew 4713
wouldnt be a starter for us but at the same time picking up guys like this on frees who will bolster the squad makes sense tbh, squad needs filling out, why spend money unnecessarily if you can do stuff like this? David Kelly 1217
Well given how much of our £35m from Carroll was spent on free transfers I'm not sure I'd be happy spending all the money we'll get from the sale of Tiote on signed Brown for free

McFaul 35
He'd be no good in England, maybe somewhere like Bolton or Everton he could plod along, but not here, he certainly wouldn't improve the first team.

Lake Bells tits 1
Who wouldnt. Unfortunately I think some top-6 club is going to be in for him, even as a squadplayer. And Im not sure he would pick us solely on the grounds of getting into the starting 11 immediately. The Lure of europe is strong, might go to arsenal... actually I think that is excactly where he will go.

KeithJ 0
Simply wouldn't get in our first choice team at the moment. He is a great grafter who doesn't give up. Be an excellent option from the bench. I would take him on a free but no more than that. I personally think we are looking at bolstering our squad if we get in to Europe as we will have a lot of games to get through and we will need more players for rotation. ewerk 30168
A Celtic supporting mate of mine was saying that he'd be gutted if he left, reckons that the entire Celtic team play better when he's on the field. However, he also said it'd be another Barry Ferguson scenario with him struggling in the PL and returning to the SPL a few years later.
StoneColdStephenIreland 74
Rather have Gosling, Guthrie, Vuckic, Abeid near the first team than him if i'm honest. He'd bring us nothing immediately nor in the future, even if he was on a free.

McFaul 35
He's probably Celtic's best fit player and he's no where near the standard we require. We have in my eyes the best African defensive midfielder, and someone who's starting every game now in midfield for a country who were World and European Champions 10 years ago. Signing someone who is probably championship level will be a big fuck you for the supporters. The thing that makes me think it's a load of shite is the disdain which AP showed the SPL last year, saying its a lower standard than the Championship, it probably is to be fair. StoneColdStephenIreland 74
Celtic and Rangers teams are no more than Championship quality at best and the rest would struggle to compete in League 1 and
sniffer 0
And yet, pardew brings on probably the worst player I've ever seen at Newcastle in perch. I cannot understand this if he's thought to be a good judge of players.
McFaul 35
Celtic and Rangers teams are no more than Championship quality at best and the rest would struggle to compete in League 1 and 2 Couldn't agree more. Hand on heart I don't think both would necessarily be promoted with their current teams. Boro got their best players and they were all shite in the CCC, look at Kris Boyd record SPL goalscorer of all time, he was in the Championship nearly 2 years and scored 10 goals. sandman02uk 0
of course the SPL is championship level, Im getting bored of listening to sweaty mugs who reckon rangers and celtic would challenge for the top spot, then call me a deluded english bastard when i tell them they would be a yo yo team at the fucking best
McFaul 35
of course the SPL is championship level, Im getting bored of listening to sweaty mugs who reckon rangers and celtic would challenge for the top spot, then call me a deluded english bastard when i tell them they would be a yo yo team at the fucking best Both would be Aston Villa type clubs at best. By that I mean for them to be here, I think the bigotry aspect would tail off big time, and that's been the key thing in fuelling their support over the years. However I maintain their supports (both of them are a myth) having 100,000 idiots in Manchester on a piss up proves absolutely fuck all, most of them just went to make cunts of themselves. Newcastle made as much money in the CCC as Rangers and Celtic made in the SPL + Europe, which shows with the additional TV money they wouldn't necessarily make more money than we do. Also when they go 10 years without winning anything which would inevitably happen their crowds would be as bad as they are now. 30,000 they've been getting for many league games recently. Pointless going in to a debate about them because they really are more insignificant than ever. The best thing that could happen to both of them is one or two other teams who could put up a SPL title challenge, and to be fair of the smaller countries your Denmark's, your Norway's, your Sweden's you'd have to say Rangers and Celtic do well when put in those terms. Anyway though, Scott Brown - nope. Only player I'd have would be Izaguirre, give him a run in the Premiership and he might develop in to a top quality player because regardless of the standard he has lots of potential particularly in an attacking sense.
