Clubs like Bolton etc have hit those sort of positions for a year or two, then go crashing down when the manager etc changes, this is the path NUFC are on and the way things are going to go under this policy, because that is how football works. I don't need to tell you this, but there are still quite a number of know-nowts and/or out of towners who are so wet around the ears they think differently because they don't understand football or are still clinging to their irrational hatred of Fred.

.. and the Halls. Fred didn't own the club, unfortunately chum.

Nice to see an upward adjustment of our 'unobtainable' league position though.

are you going to watch the match on saturday in a pub as usual somewhere ?

If we obtain European football via our league position then will you admit that you were wrong?

I think he said we'd never qualify for Europe via the league, which amounts to the same thing. If we don't manage it this year mind, there's a canny chance he'll be right imo.

Perhaps, alex... but the main issue here is that he did say it and has now adjusted his stance for fear of having to admit that he got it wrong, and will refuse to admit such if we do qualify. Aside from being tedious as fuck, it essentially renders his presence in these debates (and I use that word reluctantly ) never-ending, because he's just going to keep moving the goalposts. Put him out of his misery, imo.

Shame, but if you had been here for more than a few months [ ie as long as you have REALLY supported Newcastle United] you would know what I've been saying for years, but as per my post above, you are not going to reply are you ?

Do you really think the Westwood era was better than the Halls and Shepherd :icon_lol: and would you really rather have supported the likes of the smoggies, Leicester, Luton and Oxford for winning the League including administration and all, than NUFC [during the years of the Halls and Shepherd, playing in the San Siro, Nou Camp etc and being one of genuine biggest clubs in the country]?

Why don't YOU answer, and talk to me about all those games you claim you have been to ? Who is back pedalling ?

Oh aye, I know the point you were making. I get the feeling he'll be pissed off if we get into Europe, which is a bit sad imo.

I haven't wrapped in my season ticket Alex ?

Whatever anyone admits, the prediction thread will show Leazes and i were wrong at the end of the season when we finish above 12th.

Those 5 positions won't change anyones view of whether the club is being run appropriately though.

A simple 'no' would have sufficed.

Let's not let this question disappear whilst he waffles on.

His lack of comprehension when asking me about games in the 60's is a little bit sad and funny at the same time. I'm in my 20s ffs, I was taking the piss out of you with my 60s comments, you old goat

exactly. Any position we achieve will not sustained, which is far more telling than any one off league finish. The club is still setting lower declined standards and expectations.

No credibility, daft lad. No point in discussing anything with you at all now.

 I'll take that as confirmation I've touched a nerve tbh. Feel a bit sorry for you.

sorry Alex, but if we get into europe, I'll be there to see it, and paid for 3 years season tickets. What about you ?

I think its a bit sad that people say stupid things like this ie paying 3 years season ticket money and hoping the team lose. I'm surprised you've lowered yourself to such levels. Are you going to jump on the bandwagon again if we DO qualify for europe ?

I have to laugh here because in his mind, I was genuinely trying to pass myself off as somebody who went to games in the 60s and his excellent detective instincts have shown me up to be the fraudster that I am

you think I believed you :icon_lol:

Fuck me. I knew you were a know nowt. I've been laughing at you all along.

Where did I say that I think that you believed me? You're absolutely bananas  All supporters younger than you are know-nowts I'm guessing? You googled 'mind' yet? Honest, it could open up a whole new world for you chum.

have you googled "Mike Ashley top 5" yet chum ?

It may open up a new world for you.

While you're at it, google the league positions of NUFC since the 1950's and tell us who has been the best directors at the club. This is the point I've made all along, despite others giving their "opinons" that it isn't the case.

Of course, this is in the real world.

How old were you in 1992, about 5 years old or less ? No wonder you have no idea.

sorry, but Shepherd never owned the club. And the sacking of Souness was confirmed by Douglas Hall as a joint decision,

Robson sacking was too late

Sep 19 2004

By Neil Farrington, Sunday Sun

"I am 72 now - the same age as Bobby - and I suppose there comes a time when a lot of us really have to look how far we're going on.

"Listening to all the fans, my realisation was that it was a watershed. There was a lot of criticism. I had to stand and agree with them and I had to say, basically, there was something wrong. There's got to be change."

Sir John stressed that as he was no longer on the Newcastle United board they were his personal views, and that he was fully behind Freddy Shepherd.

He says: "It was a very difficult decision to make. I would guess that the board thought this particular season Newcastle would finish fourth and get into the Champions League. But we had a poor start to the season.

"The problems in the dressing room seemed to continue through into the season and I can understand Freddy Shepherd, the chairman's decision.

"It was the right decision, to my mind, and I'm standing by him.

"Probably the only thing to be criticised was the timing.

"It might have been better if Bobby had taken an ambassadorial role at the end of last season."

sigh. The sooner you fuck off back to Bristol - and answer all my numerous comments to you about your DOF, Denis Wise, Spurs etc the better. In the meantime, for about the hundredth time......

Sorry I haven't got my director's brownie points-to league position conversion chart or ratio handy. Perhaps you could enlighten me to how that works and I'll show you. Why 'top 5'? You can qualify for europe through the league outside of the top five. You said we never would under Ashley. Does that make you wrong if we do? Yes or no will suffice. Try not to avoid the question, answering with another question and adding "yes or no will suffice" and the end of it.

because NUFC were the 5th most qualified team for the CHAMPIONS LEAGUE AND EUROPE during their time running the club ?

And because NUFC had the 5th highest average league position in the country during their time running the club ?

You're showing your ignorance chum, if you still don't realise this and also that you're as wet around the ears as regards your perception of the club pre-1992 and lack of understanding of it, as you are of what I've said on here for years.

Anyway, as I said, be consistent in your demands or bugger off. There are dozens or more people on here who have claimed for years that anybody but Fred would do better than 5th in the country and also bicker with me every time this fact is mentioned.
