BestBaNone 0
because NUFC were the 5th most qualified team for the CHAMPIONS LEAGUE AND EUROPE during their time running the club ? And because NUFC had the 5th highest average league position in the country during their time running the club ? You're showing your ignorance chum, if you still don't realise this and also that you're as wet around the ears as regards your perception of the club pre-1992 and lack of understanding of it, as you are of what I've said on here for years. Anyway, as I said, be consistent in your demands or bugger off. There are dozens or more people on here who have claimed for years that anybody but Fred would do better than 5th in the country and also bicker with me every time this fact is mentioned. Average? But a season lasts 38 games, chum . Your words not mine. You big ball of hypocrisy.

When are you going to answer me, or demand everybody else admits they have been completely wrong. By the way, the club is now set up on declining standards and expectations. We are a selling club, any relative degree of success will not last and will be limited, and will be despite the lack of backing of the manager. If you seriously dispute this, you are as stupid as many others on here, and time will show it.

BestBaNone 0
Why, it's a valid question. Cabaye was more than we got for nolan. Obertan was more than we got for barton. Carroll's replacement is cheaper and better than Carroll. Ronaldo's replacement at Man Utd is cheaper and WORSE than Ronaldo. How are we a selling club, exactly? Because we have players that people actually want to buy now? Even before, the players that bigger clubs wanted they got, like Hamman and woodgate. On the whole, we've made more transfer profit without reinvesting than any other Premier League club. Your individual examples are all just snapshots of the big picture. Yeah, they are just snapshots, cos they're just 3 examples from dozens. We're clearly still tens of millions in profit on player trading since 2007. By the same token, I can appreciate that if we hadn't sold Carroll, we wouldn't be. Would that one decision change Leazes mind and leave him happy that we aren't a selling club, irrespective of all the other deals done? I doubt it. Guest alex
Not really too concerned about trying to change Leazes mind tbh as I don't really think it's where the crux of this particular debate should lie. Also, when Ashley has clearly changed the way he is running the club so often, I think the way in which we have operated over the last couple of seasons is a better indication as to his intentions than the way he was running the club when Vetere and Wise were shafting KK. That's not saying I unequivocally support all Ashley does from the comfort of the pub btw.

My five core words and statements would be "the grey man", "5th", "namby pamby", "do gooders", and "san siro". A quid each way on any of them in any given day and you'd be quids in. As we've discussed before though, there are still very recent indications that he doesn't understand our potential or the windows of opportunity that have to be taken when presented....or he doesn't care about them. Going out and bringing in a top draw partner for Coloccini in January while we were sitting pretty, would have galavanized us, it could have secured our position and the captains signature for next year. Having not done that, both hang precariously in the balance. Edited February 20, 2012 by Happy Face
Guest alex
Why would a selling club buy obertan and give barton away? Selling club's a misnomer, we're operating within a set budget though, wages-wise in particular. That probably does represent a glass ceiling in terms of what we can achieve as a team over the coming years, notwithstanding some excellent finds abroad. The thing is though, the last board couldn't have hoped to compete with the teams outdoing us at the minute either because on one hand the money wouldn't be there (either from loans from financial institutions or via personal wealth) and on the other hand the scouting network was abysmal / nonexistent. This has been pointed out numerous times and the response is just a feckless "blah blah ambition blah blah".

ewerk 30620
He did go and spunk £10m on a striker though when we already had the second highest scorer in the PL. I'm cynical about everything the club tells us but it could be that we are being very selective with our targets and only buying the ones we genuinely want rather that who's available at the time. I also think he's enjoying a healthy slice of luck but we have made some positive strides forward, on and off the pitch at the same time.
