So we won't finish fourth. I apologise for calling you delusional in that case.

My only prediction from the OP was this....

Unless we have a sudden crash of form, we are going to remain within touching distance all the way to the end.

Perhaps one should read posts properly before running to judge :wink2:

Dont see why not as this season has been so unpredicatable.

I would love CL football again, but I dont think it would be right tbh.

 ??????????

If we got into the CL would you expect Fat Mike to spend cash? No. He will see us as achieving well on a shoestring budget. Playing CL and domestic football on an already threadbare squad wouldnt be good.

I would actually, if (huge IF) we were in the CL our income would increase and the available % of cash for the playing staff from his finance model would similarly increase.

He won't "splash out" but I would expect the increased revenue to have an effect of increasing spend, but he definitely won't deviate from his model (whatever that is).

Aye but what about March, April & May? I agree that we'll be clinging on to the top 7 not pushing away from 5th. We have a patchwork team most games. Thankfully getting Tiote back will help and of course now having Ba and Cisse. Even if we did qualify (which we wont) we aren't good enough to compete and its no good saying the money would bolster the squad as we all know the answer to that one.

First of all we are slowly assembling a decent squad. We have strengthened again in January and we will strengthen again in the summer. Wouldnt half help get a few transfers over the line if we could promise CL football.

Also without derailing into the usual LM fest, so far no money has been taken out of the club so I see no cert that suddenly he is going to pocket any CL money.

Mind not for a moment do I think he would derail our new fiscal set up based on one CL qualification and rightly so.

How do you know this?

I just do :)

I love HF charts :D

I dont understand them :(

 It took me a while like. The bit along the bottom is the games played. The bit on the side is the amount of points we'd gotten in the 6 preceding games. Not sure what it proves like.

Pardew eyes top four finish

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has admitted for the first time that they are aiming for a UEFA Champions League spot.

The Magpies are currently in fifth place in the Premier League, just three points behind fourth-placed Chelsea in the race for a top four finish.

Remote Record

Pardew has now challenged his players to catch Chelsea and achieve with it a place in next season's Champions League.

"We've got to keep it going and chase down Chelsea," said Pardew.

"It's a great opportunity now and hopefully we can achieve something special.

"It's incredible. We're fifth and above Arsenal and Liverpool.

"We've got 39 points and we're safe so that's one job done. Now we've got 15 cup finals and it's all to play for."

CT's back on form btw. Ben Arfa's career at Newcastle potentially over in one thread and possibly guiding us into the Champions League on another. Any other bases not covered?

In games 1-6 we got 12 points

In games 2-7 we got 14 points

In games 6-11 we got 16 points

In games 12-17 we got 2 points

Charting those numbers shows our form as the season goes on.

We have 8 or 9 possibly 10 players good enough to play in the CL, either because they've played there already, qualified for it or their form is objectively good enough (e.g. Krul).

You can include Obertan on that criteria though

Is it okay if I just stick with the league table?

Well, after his goal on weds....

I meant you could build a case for 8-10 players using a mix of criteria not as hard and fast rule. For example, i dont think Ben Arfa has shown the form to justify any accolades but he has huge pedigree in the competition. If you see what i mean.

Are we all thinking Obertan is a good player cos he is a pacy player who got a goal in OT against a team pressuring forward now?

I think Chelsea will be far too strong. Euro league we arent too far off though. All the 3 teams above us have better players on the bench but liverpool for example arent that much better in terms of the first eleven. Any of Liverpool or Arsenal could keep slipping imo. Who knows, Van Persie might get injured again, but so could Ba according to Tony Pulis.

Will depend massively on how Cisse performs imo. If he starts scoring at once, together with Ba we could have an absolutely lethal partnership up top.

With Squidward and Jonas providing the bullets?

Well Ba has been banging them in with those guys, and mostly had Leon Best as a partner, see no reason for him to stop. Though I think Ryan Taylor is ahead of Obertan in the pecking order now. Whether Pardew will go for him or Benny on the wing remains to be seen. I expect the 2 strikers to combine very well if Cisse lives up to his reputation.

I hope you're right. Although the Dembas play together for Senegal, most new players take a bit of time to gel. Papiss is joining a new team, playing in a new league and living in a new country. SoI don't think we should expect too much too soon and I don't think Pardieu will start him, as Chez has predicted

This weekends fixtures should be interesting as a win against Villa should really kick us on and cement our place in the European spots, saying that I still fancy it being a draw.

Arsenal vs Blackburn

Stoke vs Sunderland

Liverpool vs Spurs

Chelsea vs Man Utd
