Baggio 0
why don't you answer brummiemag, he asks if you think Mike Ashley will reach out for the final players ie the "trophy players" or sit back looking upwards at them when we start to go downwards again ? I know the answer to that one, so how come you don't ? I wasn't aware that it was directed at me but you're a good one to question someone for not answering questions. I think he will invest if the club has the money, if that isn't the case then why was Cisse bought?
Baggio 0
So you can't tell us how to do it. As far as I'm aware the majority of the cash from Carroll is still in the club, we were never going to rush out and spend it all in the summer and the club said as much at the time, it's why we've got money to go out and buy Cisse and attempt to sign another defender now. We were miles off Liverpool and Arsenal when Ashley bought the club, a lot further than we are now in fact and as for Spurs, they've been ran fantastically well as a business over recent years to get to where they are now. how were we run when we jumped from one foot in the 3rd division, with a cow shed of a stadium, half full, and not able to float for 1.25m quid and ended up one of the biggest clubs in europe with one of the best grounds, full every game, and the 14th biggest revenues in football ? It was ran similar to how Man Utd, Arsenal and Spurs are now, we bought mostly with profits the club made as well as £40 million in the bank as part of a deal when the club became a PLC. You're setting yourself up for a mighty fall. When it comes, I hope you don't run off sulking and crying or getting a strop on again. Learn from your mistakes, football is not about winning a few games, its about doing things in a certain way which give you long term good results, and that means keeping your best players, and allowing your manager to run the club and backing him with the funds he needs, not diverting transfer funds elsewhere, and showing the ambition to fulfill the potential of the club [which I suspect Ashley doesn't understand anyway and doesn't help at all]. He will NEVER match the previous regime, remember those who said "anybody could do better than this", so often ? Laughable. Well we're better off now than how Fred left us that's for sure, so it's a case of more of the same on our part. If we get a big offer for one of our players that we think isn't worth it then cash in as long as we are confident of making a better team out of it, then it's a case of making the club more profitable and using that money to push the team on. jaythesouthernmag 0
Spurs sold Berbatov to Man U for £30m, they didn't replace him with a £30m player. They flogged Keane to the scousers for £20m They have built steadily over a period of time and have been in the champions league and Europa league and are sitting 3rd in the table. That is the only way to compete in todays game, bulid slowly, which will involve selling certain players along the way but the key is replacing these players with quality. The other alternative is to mortgage the club and hope its enough, if not your fucked
toonotl 2979
Could every please keep in mind when arguing with Leazes that he thinks Carroll would cost '£3 or £4 million' if we wanted to convince Liverpool to sell him back to us as he stated in the Carroll thread. This tells you everything you need to know about Leazes' grasp on reality.

Liverpool have made massive investments this season and stated champions league as success which now looks pretty unlikely. Arsenal and Spurs operate a similar model to each other and both are reasonabley successful. I never mentioned Souness,Bad eggs or Man U. I did mention Spurs, now third, played champions league and Europa league selling players for big money and not spending it all, sadly you didn't adress that point Do you think the Spurs model is a successful one? I'm telling you - for about the 100th time - YOU WILL NOT FIND A POST BY ME ANYWHERE SAYING WE SHOULD BE SPENDING MONEY LIKE CHELSEA OR MAN CITY OR MAN UTD . Does this actually register with you ? Where is the Carroll money ? Why should NUFC, with the 14th biggest revenues in football at the time of Mike Ashley's takeover, need to sell their best players to increase revenues ? What were the revenues of Spurs at that time, were they more than us, or less ? Do you think that Mike Ashley will realise the potential of NUFC and start backing his manager and buying the "trophy signings" which all the successful clubs have to make if they want to make this final jump into the top elite, like the last regime did, I may add ? Will he tell Chelsea to fuck off if they bid for Tiote, or someone else for Krul, Ba etc, like Spurs did regarding Modric ? We are a much bigger club than Spurs chum, providing our owners realise it. I think the NUFC model which qualified for europe and the Champions League, more than any club bar 4 during a 15 year period, from a starting point of one foot in the 3rd division and a half empty cow shed of a stadium, is a successful model to follow, would you like to know how they did it ? jaythesouthernmag 0
I never said anything about spending like Man U or Chelsea, you are rambling again My point is aimed at Spurs and the model they are following, a model that is sustainable,a model that takes time to build but ultimately brings success without breaking the bank. A good strategy for us to follow? Also, why should Newcastle United with the 14th highest revenue in world football be signing players like Sibierski,Onyewu,Craig Moore? Under Fred I believe. If we signed players like that now you would go fucking mental. The answer is simple, the club was skint and unable to compete at that time BEFORE Ashley came in Edited January 25, 2012 by jaythesouthernmag

Why don't you answer my question regarding the clubs potential future ? Spurs didnt retain Berbatov, they flogged him for £30m and didnt invest the full amount back into the team. They have since played both CL and EL football and currently sit 3rd and are NOW in a position to hang onto players like Moderic, they couldnt when they sold Berbatov. It takes a while to get into that position. The strategy used by the previous regime was unsustainable but was very successfull in the begining This is our second season back after relegation and we have the best team we have had in a long while and Europe is a strong possibility and would be a major step forward in the future of the club

Can't you read ? Do you believe that strategy was sustainable? Course it wasnt, thats why we ended up with players like Moore,Ramage,Onyewu,Sibierski etc and managers like Souness and Roeder. If it was sustainable we would have carried on signing top notch players and competing at the top, we didnt and it clearly wasnt a sustainable policy
