Sir Alex said

“I’ve always respected Alan Pardew, I’ve always rated him.

“I think he was unfairly treated at West Ham and at Southampton, it was ridiculous actually.

“He took West Ham to the FA Cup final and was one minute away from winning the Cup. He was so unlucky.”

Sir Alex added,

“Alan’s done a great job at Newcastle.

“He’s galvanised them and got them fighting for each other.

“I watched their recent 2-2 draw at home to Tottenham and it was a great game, end to end, with both teams trying to win.

“There was a really good attitude among both sets of players. They were fighting for every ball.

“When you’ve got a Newcastle team doing that, with their great support behind them, you know you’re going to get a difficult game.”

Kind words from Sir Alex there but I'm not confident about this one, fingers crossed we don't embarrass ourselves and put in a similar performance as we did again City if we do come away with nothing.

7th will never be success for me, but Manchester United and Arsenal whether we like it or not will always be a bigger club than we are, Liverpool are massively bankrolled while, Man City and Chelsea were behind us before Abramovic and the Arabs, while Tottenham are the role model for us they've over taken us. The dynamics of the Premiership are totally different to what they were in 2003. So from being the third or fourth club in the pecking order in 2003, Chelsea and Man City have wiped us out the water and Tottenham are a London club on the up. With the external investment in Man City, Chelsea and Liverpool, and the sheer size of Arsenal and Man Utd, even if we had the set we had on paper in 2003, then we'd be vying for the slot of sixth biggest club with Tottenham in their present form at best.

This is an excellent post and it's surprising how much Premiership football has changed since Sir Bobby's day, in fact I'd say the change has been bigger than when Sky got involved in the game to what football was before that.

Out have gone the local business men running clubs bringing an era of oversea's billionaire investors wanting to throw money at buying success, the clubs that did attempt to live above their income back then either went under like Leeds or came close to it like Chelsea, now you've got them throwing ten's of millions every transfer window without ever having to worry about the club financing it.

Our hope is that the financial fair play rules are enforced fully allowing us to fight on a fair playing field again, if they are then we're now in strong position to compete with nearly everyone.

Abramovich might actually do that but the Mansours are just chucking their cash in whole hog without declaring it as "loans to the club" they're putting it in as Sponsorship through their other companys too like the ridiculous etihad sponsorship deal and whatnot

I hope Mansour and Abramovich leave some massive debts behind and Chelsea & Man City have to one day atone for their madness.

As nice as it sounds I don't see it happening, our hope is that they have to downscale to run at a level that is self sustaining.

At least with Man City they have a quality young squad that they could cash in on if they needed to come under budget, Chelsea on the other hand have a backbone that is on the decline and will hopefully struggle to replace them.

It's 'only' £40 milliion per season they are getting through sponsorship and that's under investigation, it's not a lot compared to the losses the club need to cover to make the financial rules.

Their wage bill was £21 million more than the clubs turnover.

Summik in The Sun today saying they've spent £987,450,000 since they bought the club. Included in that was £305,000,000 debt. £305m debt??!?!! How the fuck were they surviving? Surely some mistake.

Actually come to think about it, it is possible to get into the top 4. Wouldnt be too hard either. Just requires some world class scouting

Seriously though, we could probably have a serious go if we plowed another 30-40 millions into the squad by signing 6-7 class players from eresdivisie and ligue 1 for about 5-6 mill each.

The reason we wont is because Mike doesnt want to spend any money at all. It is possible, the same way it is possible to spend 100 mill like liverpool and still end up with a bunch of shite players.

Just comes down to scouting and youth development.

Bottom line: Carroll-money alone could - wisely spent - have bought half a team of top4-5 quality players like cabaye. Shame it didnt and probably the reason we can still only hope for 7th at best.

Not moaning, just calling it like I see it.

We win a few games, and you come back, you sad arsehole.

Do you still think the club is better off without Keegan and should be backing Wise and this DOF rubbish ?

Baggio has every right to rub it in our faces, look at the faith he showed when he disappeared from here for nearly 3 years and 2 years from Newcastle-online.

:icon_lol:

bet he doesn't take up my offer.

Hey Leazes, under H&S didn't we sell Ginola, Ferdinand, Woodgate? off the top of my head

hey Fish, and the club pocketed the money didn't they, especially when they broke the world transfer record [what a waste of money that was eh :icon_lol: ]

They broke the record before they sold our best players for a relative pittance.

Selling Woodgate for £14m was a decent bit of business, but then, wasn't selling Carroll for £35m?

My point is that we've not suddenly become a selling club, we've suffered it for decades, Gazza to Jose. and No doubt for longer before that, and for longer after that.

Just another hole in Leazes' argument.

Wasn't your friend Fred in charge when Keegan got brassed off and resigned in 1998??

haha, we sold our best players and pocketed the cash under the Halls and Shepherd did we ? Have you been drinking again ?

PS...if anything, if what you say is true, rather than absolute shite, it only escalates the job they did, being a selling club and qualifying for europe more than any other club bar 4 in 15 years, breaking the world transfer record, buying all those "trophy players", running for the league title and finishing 2nd twice, playing in the champions league, transforming the stadium into one of the best in europe and the turnover 14th in world football ?

Not bad for a "selling club". When is soopa Mike going to match that then ? :icon_lol:

more Fred hatred here. :icon_lol: Strange how they re-surface after a few decent results, the fools will disappear when the flash in the pan is over and Tiote is sold and replaced by a cheap 2nd rate Scottish player.

The previous board was in charge, unless you only want to compare Mikey boy's regime to after Sir John stepped down. Then you can't claim the average positions or all of the EU qualifications. Can't have it both ways.

it isn't me who is stupid enough to think a minority shareholder runs the football club single handed.
