Lake Bells tits 1
Watching ttham - villa yesterday, it strikes me what a pathetic side villa has become. 0-2 and 15 minutes to go, they are parking the bus. We will finish higher this season, no fight at all in them. Stoke seems to have gone on a sunderland spring run, and sunderland are what, 15 points behind us. Is Everton the only team we should worry about? Thoughts please... Norwich and Swansea seems fresh and hungry, but I reckon they will run out of steam after christmas like most teams newly promoted...
JawD 99
Im currently confident we will finish at worst 7th. Not sure we have the staying power to keep the likes of Arsenal or Liverpool & Chelsea off our tails but I dont see anyone else springing up from lower than those and I can't see us going on such a bad streak to drop that far* * On the assumption we dont sell key players and fail to bring anyone in in Jan while having key injuries. bobbyshinton 59
nailed on above us 2 X manc, 2X N London Chelski and Liverpool. Villa = cack Everton = steady eddy but not enough fire power. Mackems = not gelling, manager hated so a lot of discontent which will not help them Stoke= sussed Bolton = good last year knackered this year without the likes of DS Fulham = could be a suprise if they get out of Europa league QPR, Norwich = one season wonders maybe up there The rest no no's so yes we could be 7th, there for us to lose. like top 10 last year
McFaul 35
We are comfortably the seventh best side in the country. The only team who could threaten that over the next few years are probably QPR.
Lake Bells tits 1
The question for me is - what team aside from the top 6 ( which will probably comfortably pass us during the spring season lets be honest ) will overtake our 15 point lead? I cant see any. So I agree, worst case scenario we finish 7th. Im already booking a double-room for me and Tecato for our away-matches in europe
Brock Manson 0
We're having a bad run of injuries that could hamper our progress, but against 3 of the best teams in the league in a row we're not expected to pick up points anyway. Looking at the table now indicates that we're an outfit capable of beating the teams who are all at the same level - slog out results with a simple formula. We have bods in the team though that appear to have some playing ability and it could see us pull away from the cluster of cloggers and into a strong league position that would, in an ideal world lead to further development. The likely scenario is we'll finish top half with a number of our best players moving on to teams like Liverpool and Spurs to push them further whilst we're dragged back into the mire until Carr and his team uncover the next three or four low-key signings who turn up trumps. Lake Bells tits 1
Forgot about QPR - good shout. Probably the team I worry about the most... But they cant possibly qualify for EL in their first year of PL...can they?
Brock Manson 0
If QPR replace Warnock then they might start establishing themselves, but don't forget they've only just been promoted. Plenty of teams are flash in the pan one-season wonders then go on to be dumped out on their arse the next season. He's signed very average players (Barton aside, which is probably the transfer steal of the season) that aren't really going to be around for the long haul. With a good manager and a few decent signings there's no reason why several other clubs can't do the same.

About anything, big mouth on a website but I know for a fact what you'd be like in person. We were relegated with the best squad which has been relegated in living memory, yes better than West Ham in 2003 as a squad. The squad that got relegated on paper at least should've come 8th or 9th at worst, the reasons behind the relegation are obvious. We lost 8 players on relegation and were comfortably the best side in the Championship for years, we lost 4 games in 46 without even breaking sweat. We came back up with Premiership players, and the only two key players we added really were Ben Arfa and Tiote, Ben Arfa played three games, so really only Tiote was added. Despite that we were 30 seconds away from coming 9th which would've been totally deserved as we were easily the 9th best team in the division last season, so don't go on about the Championship you utter idiot. Look at the other teams in the division how they play, their personnel. We are by a distance the best of the rest, to dispute that, is you being a wank which is a daily occurance for you. The only teams who could get close to us, are Aston Villa, they'd need at least five players, Everton need to replace at least 5 or 6 due to ineptitude and age, and the rest oh dear, you'd be looking at them revamping their entire squads. QPR are the only ones with the financial muscle to do that.
McFaul 35
Tell me a club outside the top 6, with better players than Ben Arfa, Ba, Cabaye, Tiote or Coloccini, even Jonas on present form. There isn't one. If you were building a team of Premiership players from teams outside of the top 6, Newcastle would have 6 or 7 that is a fact. ewerk 30175
Stevie, you really do get emotional, don't you? The fact is that we may have been 30 seconds away from coming 9th but we didn't, we came 12th. It's five years since we were as high as 7th. We're having a good season, there's no denying that but to say that no other club in the PL (apart from QPR) could turn it around in the next couple of years or that we could sell a few players / get worse is foolish. But once again you know better than anyone else.

But once again you know better than anyone else. You conveniently ignored my point about the standard of the side we had in the Championship and our reasons for being there. Look at the side we started with in 2008/2009 Given, Beye, Enrique, Coloccini, Bassong, Milner, Butt, N'Zogbia, Duff, Owen, Martins. That's a side who should've been top half, and our bench was strong too, so we weren't just a bog standard CCC club coming up (and I concede we lost a lot of those eleven). Answer the next post I made. They'd need at least five players, and no one has the financial capability to do it (other than QPR).
ewerk 30175
No one has the financial capabilities to sign five or six players? What big signings have we made? None of them have broken the bank. Look at the money we've spent in the last few years compared to the likes of Sunderland or Stoke, the difference is we've made some very astute signings and to a certain extent we've been lucky, it could happen to a number of other clubs. JawD 99
I think we'll finish 7th this season at least, but don't support the notion that we're nailed on to be 7th for years to come. Afterall, who predicted we'd be 4th in mid November? Who knows what will happen next year let alone beyond, especially with uncertainty hanging over key players. Toonpack 9126
I think less than 7th would be a great disappointment, from where we are. I believe we are "comfortably" the best of the rest, it's a good platform, whether we can (or will) build upon it who can say. I don't think Liverpool are any great shakes (lift themsleves for the "big" games but have looked pedestrian against the "rest" - when I've seen them anyway), Spurs are canny, but if Colo doesn't miss-kick, we'd likely have beaten them as well. KeithJ 0
Unfortunately you cant predict any of the ways the Premier League will go, look at Leeds. Champions League latter stages and then bang.. Relegation and never to be heard of for a good number of years. Personally, I dont think Barton was a steal for QPR as SWP has looked every bit the player he was when he got signed for mega money by Chelsea! Agree completely about the relegation squad. That was a team capable of staying in the league! Some of those who did leave proved how good they were. Martins done feck all and Beye is now in Doncaster wondering how the fuck he went from being loved by the toon to being dumped in a shit hole of a club! I think it's down to good scouting as much as anything else. Look at the players a side like Wigan has been capable of signing over the last few years. I know what you're getting at though. We should be looking to come at least 7th and be better placed than many to maintain that sort of position.
Happy Face 29
We were in a similar position after 12 games of last season, so I'm not comfortable assuming Ashley won't sack/sell/annoy someone pivotal and allow things to spiral badly. Looks our best opportunity in a decade for now though.
David Kelly 1217
Watching that game last night it was very apparent that we're still a decent way behind spurs (Modric, Bale, Lennon, Van Der Vaart, Adebayor is a very strong attack with Defoe and Pavelachenko in reserve too) but Villa look very poor with only Bent and Agbonlaghor looking like anything at all. Clearly we don't have as good teams or squads as Citeh/Manure/Chelski/Arse/The Yids or the bin dippers and it would take a massive injury crisis from those teams (perhaps Arsenal would have to lose the least number of players for us to have a chance of finishing above them (RVP might enough)) but there's no reason at all to think we can't finish seventh. Villa and QPR would have to make up ten points on us already (villa have Manure, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal to play in December and QPR have Liverpool, Man U and Arsenal) so that's going to take some doing. But a lot will depend on January. If we sell Tiote and/or Colo we will really struggle. If we bring in a new striker and centreback/fullback (Miaga and Peiters for example) I think we would only have ourselves to blame if we couln't manage it.
