Does that warrant the levels of investment? Is it necessary to spend that much just to qualify for the Europa league? I take it you conceed Liverpool have no chance of winning the league

Pacinofan 0
Big spending, on a fraction of what the Manchester clubs and Chelsea fork out, with the might of Stoke and Wolves hot on their tail. They're not breaking the bank . Just using the money from the likes of Torres, Alonso, Mascherano etc. to reinvest on top of the sky money. The Alonso and Mascherano money was long gone. Alonso was sold summer '09 and Mascherano was sold by Hodgson summer 2010.

I take it you conceed Liverpool have no chance of winning the league Clubs spend for future seasons not just the present. Liverpool have took the steps to try and build a squad capable of challenging season on season. This summer wil have much less of a turnover of players overall, last summer saw 19 out, and 9 in, I expect this summer will see only two or three players come in, but I think they'll be established quality players. I don't think the aim should be to have a long red bar, the preference would be not to. But spurs don't have weak links like Danny Simpson and mike Williamson playing every week while £25m sits waiting to be spent for over 3 windows. JawD 99
Out of interest, anyone know what their spending was like when selling players like Ferdinand?
Happy Face 29
Out of interest, anyone know what their spending was like when selling players like Ferdinand? Pulled in £20m over 6 months when dalglish arrived from ferdy, ginola, asprilla, Beardsley etc. Spent £17m on tomasson, pistone, andersson, griffin and speed in the same timeframe. Criminal business. Happy Face 29
Within the year we'd spent a further £15m on guivarch, dabizas, hamann and Solano mainly.
Craig 6700
Rolling it back a few pages, why is Simpson getting a hard time? Granted he's not the best out there but fuck me, he's done us more than one favour this season. As for those claiming that in 3 to 4 years Liverpool will be qualifying for the CL and we'll be in mid-table obscurity, how many predicted we'd be in as good a position as we are now? Not many (me included)!! We've got one of the most closely bonded teams I've ever known in 30 years yet it's still not good enough? I honestly believe some people ain't happy unless they're moaning - we're well into the top half of the Premier League, we've a good chance of qualifying for Europe and we gave the champions an absolute tonking a couple of months ago. Baggio 0
Within the year we'd spent a further £15m on guivarch, dabizas, hamann and Solano mainly. To be fair he did buy some decent players, it was just the injury to Shearer that ruined it. Edited March 3, 2012 by Baggio

Baggio 0
Also, it was only Ginola that went on to be quality somewhere else. Ferdinand was injury prone at Spurs, Beardsley had just got old and Asprilla falls in the same category as Ben Arfa and Margins for being completely hit and miss. No, it's your inferiority complex combined with your refusal to accept you are ever wrong (which you usually are) mixed with my lack of a shit that I give when I tell you that you are wrong which leads you to dislike me. A bit like the same way a retarded fuckwit dislikes the teacher that tells him he's a retarded fuckwit.
