south_cheshire_toon 0
Considering that Virgin are taking over Northern Rock, does it mean :- 1. Virgin will (at the earliest moment) become the new shirt sponsors ? 2. A new shirt 'introduced' with said new logo on it. 3. As Newcastle will be in the premier league next year - renew the shirt sponsorship - as best way to get name out there ? Or will they just leave things as is and jump ship at the end of the season. Thoughts

trophyshy 7084
Virgin is unlikely to want to get into bed with Mike, and anyway Mike wants SD on the shirt.
Brock Manson 0
It would be very apt if Kevin were to buy a NUFC shirt if this were the case.

Happy Face 29
Would be interesting to see the response from the club if Virgin ask to honour the original deal now they own the Rock.
hostile_statue 0
Who's your favourite/least favourite Toon shirt sponsor then (in terms of how the shirt looked)? The Brown Ale one for me, while the ntl: looked like shit. Liked the blue star as well.

As an actual logo on the shirt though I think the blue star on it's own was far more iconic.
Craig 6700
Considering the NR rebranding to Virgin Money is effective from January 2012, it's an interesting point that has been raised. Presumably the contract we have with NR runs until next summer so it's surely down to Virgin whether they want their logo or the defunct brand on the shirts for the final 6 months. That said it's not unprecedented for a sponsor to change partway through a season. We did it ourselves back in 1990/91 and I'm pretty certain that QPR changed their shirt sponsorship to Fernandes' 'Air Asia' brand when he bought the club earlier this season. Was missing 'The One and Only' off the top and the coins around the middle. The simple blue star (1983-86) was by far the best we've had IMO. There'll probably be a clause in the contract allowing the club to charge extra in these circumstances. Mike will invoke this clause to the max possible - likely resulting Virgin telling us to do one and giving MA free SD shirt advertisements from January 1st. Goody fucken gumdrops. Paves way for an SD logo with Fat Mike saying it's because Northern Rock went defunct and there was no possibility available to change it with 6 months left to go on the deal anyway. Brock Manson 0
Come to think of it, it'd be a good supporter litmus test for SD to be on the shirt. It's the only degree of control Fat Mike can give to the supporters - don't buy the SD logo shirt and it'll demonstrate how no-one wants to have SD plastered all over the club. That said, there'll still be thousands of helmets who will buy it anyway, even if he had "Fuck you geordie cunts" written in red and white letters on the front. Guest alex
Was a nice shirt like (the Grandad shirt) I still have it (aye, it still fits anarl ) but agree it would've been better with just the Blue Star logo.

IIRC didn't we had one more match where the kit was sponsored by NTL:digital after we'd worn the Northern Rock logo for the first time? Pretty certain we wore the new shirt (complete with NR logo) for the last home match of the 02/03 season but we wore the away kit (complete with NTL sponsorship) for the away game at West Brom on the last day of the season.
