Good shit.

Good for the region, good for the employees.

No compulsory redundancies for at least three years.

Virgin will continue to work with the foundation.

The new headquarters for Virgin Money will be Newcastle.

I know plenty who will be pleased. Hopefully they start treating their staff better.

In fact just got a text :) the staff now get their birthday off, a day off for christmas shopping, and you can buy 5 days extra hols off the firm (32 days!), AND get discounts off all Virgin products.

Your birthday off and a day for Christmas shopping?! Are you working in Toytown??

I know a few people that work there, the person who I'm getting this info out is knocking one out! Well she would if she was a lad, but it sounds like the benefits are everything from CD's to cheap flights and holidays, I think I want to go back after 11 years!! Why did this not happen when I worked there?

I already get 32 days. Is that 32 AFTER you've bought extra?

No apparently you can buy five extra days. So she's on 27 now that goes up to 32 if she buys them so you're looking at 7 and a half weeks if you choose to.

People seem to be buzzing here like. First good news day since I joined this place.

My first thought was "does this mean we'll be getting 'Virgin' on our shirts?"

Used to laugh at Palace when they had it

So nationalisation cost the taxpayer £650m if the sale price is £747m

A tenner each.

Quite good value.....for Gemmill's extra leave I mean.

I'll sort you out with some cut price Virgin cosmetics. It's the least I can do.

Typically miserable stuff from Peston on the BBC website with the unsurprising reaction from his loyal band of reactionist simpletons commenting about how terrible it is that taxpayers have 'made a loss' and lots of baddies are running away with suitcases full of cash.

This is a good deal all round- the price paid is well above the current price for financial institutions. No-one will ever know the precise gain or loss on the nationalisation of Northern Rock and even roughly we won't know for years as NRAM unwinds.

Good to have more high-street competition as well. Virgin has been brilliant in maintaining its 'noisy upstart' image which will probably fare extremely well given the current perception of most high-street banks.

Fantastic bit of business by Virgin to buy NR. They have done well in the Financial Services side however have not been able to break through in to the full retail banking side. Due to the brand image they hold of being cool, friendly and giving to customers then this could be a serious player in the banking side if they build it up nicely.

Was at a meeting across the road from the Northern Rock office in Gosforth this morning and there was some bint from the BBC asking me if I worked for them and if so could she have an intervirw.

Suffice to say I gave her Gemmill's details instead.
