Nice new forum that people have put a lot of effort into-you actually have the choice to change the record. End off. you can actually stop following me around like a lost puppy, because however you dress up your babble, you simply can't prove that I am calling the current setup of the club incorrectly, and inferior to before, as much as you would like to, and have been trying to do for the last few years. What do you think the future direction of the club is ? Do you think it is setup for success, or that it will ever be achieved, in terms of good league placings in terms of european qualifications ? Surely it isn't much to ask you, to give your opinion, rather than just disagree with anything that I post ?
manc-mag 1
We can discuss what 'relative' success is in various threads and at various intervals and I'm happy to do so (I have numerous times already this season) but that's not what I'm saying here. I've seen you have said elsewhere you want success on a par with Tottenham and I think that's fair enough, there's not a lot worth arguing about there. I think you just have to divorce those statements of aspiration from your other agenda. The point I'm making is massively straightforward and shouldn't be in the least bit contentious. I'm sure most would agree with me on that.

If you're wrong, you're wrong, it's no big deal Perhaps now you can refrain from following me around, like you do [and have just done] then accuse me of ruining the thread ? Toonpack 9314
whats a fact, is that money from sales under the old regime was spent back on the team. That is how we reached levels of performance that your man will never see if he owns this football club until he is 200 years old. Again, as you aren't putting your own hard cash into supporting your man, its easy to spout the rubbish that you spout. I take it that you are now backing off that statement you made on numerous occasions, that you would revise your opinion of Mike Ashley on September 1st, and this transfer deadline that has just passed was "now or never" for him ? Where's the yes or no to my question. Now or never in what context?? I have said what I "think" it shows. Even if he is not prepared to put his own hand into his own pocket any more, the financial position of the club is such that we can, and should, compete at our realistic level (circa Spurs was the consensus on here). O the surface, previous "profits" (not that we made any in real terms) went back into the team, whilst debt was increased to allow £52 Million to be taken out, or maybe it was the other way around. Any chance of an answer to my Nolan/Barton question ???

Dr Kenneth Noisewater 0
We have not "as a rule" sold our best players, well not when we had control of the situation and I see no evdience to support the notion we will. I must admit, I'm guilty of presuming that the likes Colo, Tiote & Krul would be sold on if a decent offer came in (not an unreasonable presumption bearing in mine my complete lack of trust for this board). I hope you're right and they do make a real effort to keep the core of good, experienced players and build on it. How long's left on Colo's contract? What to you think of the chances of him getting/accepting a new deal?
Gejon 2
Been a fair bit of talk about Colo getting a new contract, I am still sceptical but it would be brilliant if he did. I still don't think we are a selling club any more than the vast majority of clubs in this league as in, if a silly offer comes in we will accept and as far as buying to sell for a profit goes we really fucked up on Barton, Nolan and Jose

As for Colo, he's 28 but CB's play well into their thrities, hope they can get something done, has to be this year otherwise it's "last year of contract shenanigans" again. Would suspect if he's not signed this season he'll be gone next summer. That's just the realityof the game these days.

Park Life 71
Think we're in a grey area right now cause the team are playing well and the Carroll sale so far looks like a lot of money for not much. Think there will be more clarity either way after Jan and the end of this season. A top 8 fiinish and a lower wage bill (I imagine) and a younger, faster, fresher squad would be looking like a modicum of success to most. Will MA push on? Time will tell. Gejon 2
Pushing on really rests on Graeme Carr, there won't be much money available so it's whether he can keep finding quality players who are either out of contract or have clauses with maybe the odd gamble on a youngster not getting games at the top clubs so available for a low fee (Obertan). I don't really give a toss about the finances, as long as the team keeps improving I'm happy. As things stand, we look to be moving in the right direction but as you say time will tell on what the longer term picture is.
toonotl 2974
LM in meltdown in this thread. Can't believe no one has pulled him up on claiming to be a bonifide fortune teller. I think the start to this season is reflecting rather well on Ashley so far. Not that I think he knows what he doing its just that circumstances seem to be aligning to make him, and as a result us, look good, namely... Carroll is not worth anywhere near £35mill, Barton has not started the season playing like an 80k-a-week player, Nolan is underperforming in the Championship, Cabaye looks great, Ba equally so, Santon is young and has pedigree, Marveaux looks promising and Most importantly we are 4th, playing well and looking like a quality side. All in all, I think that the positive start has little to do with Ashley's running of the club, but I can't say that now with the same amount of assuredness I would have done last year when we were 10 minutes away from finishing 8th. Simply a continuation of the trend, we've bottomed outthough IMO What is your re-appraisal you said you would give of him after his summer "when the club was in a spending position for the first time" ? Already answered When did the old owners not back their managers to the utmost ? With their own money, never. If you want a specific example, the Bowyer summer When did you last put your money into the football club ? 2003 - and you know the reasons from PM some weeks ago, edit - thats when I personally stopped going, I stopped buying my ST's in 2005/6 What is your question re Barton and Nolan ? Would you have paid them/given them the contracts they have ended up with When is your man going to qualify for europe ? Not my man and sadly I do not "100% know the future", If by Eurpoe you mean Champions league, possibly never, but you do realise the game has somewhat changed since last we did. Who said Spurs was our target ? When your man took over, we were much bigger than Spurs ? No-one, wherever did you make that idea up from See above Edited October 10, 2011 by Toonpack
