The Northumberland-born 19 year-old has managed just 18 minutes of first team pitch time for the SPL side since moving to Edinburgh in August, reportedly injuring his hamstring during training.

Speaking to the Scotsman newspaper however, Hibs boss Colin Calderwood claimed that Airey had been unwilling to return to Easter Road following treatment:

"If he (Airey) is not going to be comfortable and happy you are not going to get the best out of him.

"Everyone has come to an agreement. You cannot force someone to play for you, it would be wrong to have him here and him not being in contention because he was always not wanting to be here but would rather be at Newcastle."

Poor form on his part. Not impressed.

It won't do him any favours but it could just be that he was homesick and uncomfortable there. Not everyone's cut out for moving away from home. Doesn't necessarily mean he's a trouble maker or anything.

I read that the clubs mutually agreed the deal be terminated. Due to the extent of the injury he would just basically be doing rehabilitation with Hibs until the end of the loan period so there was no point in him being there.

Eh, fair enough if that's the case. Hopefully we'll send him on loan somewhere in England then.
