Obertan: Earths' gravity is no match for him.

Time to bench him tbh.

Start Marveaux in all league matches, give Obertan cup + reserve games and 15-20 minutes as a sub.

He's still young and I think he's got some potential. Physically he's got good attributes, mentally less so. Simply not enough end product at the moment to earn a first 11 spot, all there is to it I'm afraid.

He was piss poor again today and Marveax showed what happens when you put an intelligent footballer with some skill into the position. I just think Obertan is Pardews blind spot, nearly every manager good and bad has a player they rate and keep picking when everyone else would drop them for a superior replacement.

What would he have done in marveaux's boots for the goal? He'd have controlled it and done a few step overs, ran it to the corner flag, tripped over the ball, won it back and passed it out, trying to pass it back to Simpson.

;)

The worst part is that he seems to be even less aware of his team mates movement and play now than he was when he joined. Seems to be in his own world, one presumably where crosses should either land on the other side of the box or drill into the first defenders legs.

Not giving up all hope, but to play that many games in a side in winning form and still look so out of place and out of sync is cause for concern.

They showed the ground covered at one stage during the game (probably half time) and Obertan was 6th on the list which wasn't bad, what was bad was that for all that running he offered very little.

The one positive to take from this match I guess is that he seemed to try harder in defense, and closed down their players on several occasions where previously he might have just let them go. You can't blame Pardew for wanting to give him a good chance to settle in to the team, but it has thus far been at the expense of Marveaux's place in the side despite the Marveaux looking to be the more productive of the two whenever given a chance.

Marveaux absolutely has to start in the next match which I'm sure was the plan anyway, as it's a Carling Cup game. He should thereafter retain his position and be given the same amount of time as Obertan to establish himself.

I noticed Jonas wasn't in the top 10 for distance covered and realised it had to be made up crap.

btw I'd rather see squidward play in the CC that way Marveaux would be the better, fresher option.

I'm going down Blackburn on wednesday so I'm looking forward to seeing what Marveaux is like from the start. I've been impressed with everything I've seen from him so far and it's looking like whether we use him on the right or left he'll be better than squidward.

And as much as he not playing well, I think the dip in performance after that incident when the two major fuck ups occurred just shows why it's important to stick with a player and give them encourage them. Imo, 'I pay my money so I'll jeer if I want to' is an attitude for a pantomime not a football match. Just my opinion though.

If a fan was frustrated after one match then they were either more optimistic than CT going into the season or an impatient wanker. At most it's 3 or 4 games of frustration because any earlier is either unfair or bizarrely optimistic.

I don't think it's a question of the player frustrating for a fair period of time, it's the eagerness of some fans to get on a players back because basically they enjoy doing it.

There always has to be a scapegoat.

fwiw I thought Obertan showed moments of quality and moments of selfishness and a lack of quality. Overall I thought he was poor, but there's no benefit to jeering your own player. Jonas got the same when he wasn't playing well, it's just a need of some fans to blame a player for the team's poor performance.

I've never understood anyone doing this, if you're a supporter you turn up and support for 90 mins (and if you have to then complain after the final whistle), if you're a customer you pay your money and if you feal cheated you give out some stick. It doesn't help any individual player or the team when the crowd stats jeering, booing or whatever and its bad enough say at halftime (though it didn't happen this saturday) but during the match is moronic.

So i can imagine he did get worse from getting some stick which i don't ever want to see, however even with 100% support he just looks way off being good enough at the moment, and i like to give players longer than anyone usually. I certainly wouldn't write him off completely long term quite yet, but currently Marveax has to replace him whislt the coaching staff get Obertan to use what he has better and use his brain more and make him aware of the need to get back and help the defence and work harder. I think he'd have got less stick if the fans percieved him to be a real grafter who was struggling to deliver rather than half hearted and failing to deliver.

Id rather see him at least try to go 1-on-1 with their defenders, instead he always picks the safe solution which basically ruins our attack. Its as if he cant be bothered because hes got nothing to prove, he is a former manchester united player.

Id go way easier on him if he at least attempted to challenge and cut in... which he doesnt.

Marveaux came on late so was fresh against a tired opposition, and we were in the ascendancy, however....

In 77 minutes Obertan attempted 36 passes (0.47 passes per minute)

In 13 minutes Marveaux attempted 12 passes (0.92 passes per minute)

28 of Obertans passes were succesful (77%)

11 of Marveaux's passes were succesful (92%) - one of which was an assist.

Obertan might switch those numbers around if he were to be the one coming off the bench....it could only do his confidence good if he could.

Have to start Marveaux.

I don't think it's right to boo an individual and I don't do it myself but I find it hard to argue against anyones right to do so when they pay the money that they do to watch.

I also think it's hard to not to groan when a player fucks up. It's just an instinctive reaction a lot of the time. It certainly won't help the players but I think it's very difficult to avoid.

With more specfic regards to Obertan, the big worry for me is not that he looks like he lacks the ability to do well but the bottle which I don't think is something that can be improved on over time. If you are a lazy gutless twat at 22, I think it's unlikely that you will ever be anything else. I hope I'm wrong about him but this is certianly the impression he's giving me at the moment.

Paying your money doesn't entitle anyone to be a prick really

I pay to see a comedian, it doesn't give me the right to heckle the act and spoil if for everyone else....though many people think it does.
