Obertan: Earths' gravity is no match for him.

Who would people play instead of Obertan?

Bear in mind I think it's quite clear that Ben Arfa doesn't want to play on the wing anymore.

Do you have any statements from the lad where he explicitly tells us he doesnt want to play on the wing? Peculiar, since he has done that both at marseille and on the french national team.

Until then I rather think its pardew who doesnt want to play him there (for some reason)

When you play on the wing you're always more open to nasty challenges, it goes with the territory so I think he's opted out - or surely he would have played there again by now?

And yes I know he played on both wings in France to great success, you don't have to tell me.

Still leaving us with obertan as the only right-winger? Removing a striker and going with 3 CMs doesnt adress that.

So how do you want us to play then?

4-3-3 perhaps. Try something new at least, our current 4-4-2 have been found out and with 2 poor wingers we need to dare to try new things.

And let our less than great full backs take care of the wings by themselves? That would be beggin' for problems.

3 central midfielders, 2 of them more defensively focused would solve that. besides how much does onlyran help simpson in todays 442? and I think santon can handle defensive problems way better than taylor, so please don't base taylor as our left-back. we should really be thinking of securing a left back this window though, a left back with a on par defensive disicpline.

I'll tell you now - anyone replacing him - unless brought in - or Marveaux - will get the same amount of stick after a few starts and I'm including Sammy in that.

We're stuck between a rock and a hard place and unless they are going to spend it's not going to be rectified quickly.

I'd rather have R.Taylor on the right tbh, that way we get the positives of his game (the decent crosses and free kicks) without having to worry about his defensive side too much and he'd also be an improvement over Obertan in the assisting with defense aspect too.

you base that exclusively on how we've been threating obertan don't you?... speaking of my idiot rhetorics...

I'd give Santon 10 minutes there and see what he can do - as Pardew's original gameplan seemed to centre around pace and athleticism.

Aye I'd be happy if he did the same like, it's canny depressing to have 2 full backs that can deliver a better ball than our starting (aye ana only until marveux's back) winger .

If the plan is to qualify Obertan for the Olympic Games, I suspect they've headed down the wrong career path.

ben arfa and best as inside forwards and ba in the middle, it would actually work.

No it wouldn't. Of those three, best is a far more likely target man, with ba preferring to drop deeper.

I like what I've seen of Santon so far but I doubt he'll be able to take care of both wings.

Nah, swedes are the dullest people in the world.

Starting both in front of Santon? Alright then, Alan.

You're clearly dense. As I said, Santon can't cover both wings now can he so Raylor or Simpson would have to play. Or do you have a youth/reserve player lined up for that role? Shane Ferguson, maybe he should play full back in a 4-3-3?

Funny you should say that. Wasnt Ferguson the come-through player of the year last season? Now he has disappeared from the face of the earth.

Yeah, I think Shane ferguson on one side and Santon on the other could not possibly be worse than simpson/raylor.

Fast lad, no fear and an appetite for going forward. Raylor is a makedo-solution that has gone sour. Simpson is worthless.

Thing is, its pointless debating this. Pardew wont change his ways and will field the -4-2/4-5-1 we all have grown to love, so lets go with simpson/taylor then.

Didnt you hear his yells vs liverpool ,telling them to hoof it and " hit ba"

stewart robson called pardew a egotistical, self promoting, long ball route one football and no creativity in midfield and a con-man

That's not what we're discussing, we're talking about which full backs we could use in a 4-3-3 and the answer is we don't have those players, apart from maybe Santon.
