If he keeps on scoring he'll end up a bit of a Sibierski-type cult hero. He doesn't come across as a Billy Big Bollocks and we never hear of any shite surrounding him. Although he makes the noises he deserves his place in the Prem I reckon he knows deep down he's a lucky lad to be here and playing regularly.

Which one would you class as the better player - Best or le Sib?

I'd maybe plump for Best but then Sib did the biz in Europe. I think that's the answer to the january transfer striker - coax the slaphead out of retirement for one last hawhihaw.

Couldn't honestly say. However, the way Sib overcame the universal groans and despair which came from Tyneside when he signed was nice to see.

Hopefully he plays tonight, I can see him banging in a few against his boy hood club.

Is he a Forest fan? I know he's from there, so he probably is but he was at Notts Co. as a bairn I think.

Nothing lucky about his second against Fulham. Very well taken goal.

It was a class goal. He seems generally average but he's going to get a run in the side, so we'll know one way or the other.

Yup, he was a magpie from the very beginning. Never played for Forest.

I like his attitude. But I will continue to mock him, that's obviously doing the trick.

Best is better than Sibierski.

And I was just marvelling how you stayed close to the line, but was careful not to cross it.

He has more goals in less games against harder opposition. On what planet is the opinion that Best is perhaps better than Sibierki outrageous? Not mine.

Was an article which said he was a forest fan.

Really? Didn't know that.

Anyone know how fierce the Notts Co-Forest rivalry is?

He is currently our best striker and most likely to score so fair play to him for that. But tbh all that does is make me cringe.

Whether I'm at the match or in a bar watching it on the telly all I hear from everyone nearby is how piss poor best is. The fact that he then scores a goal (most likely on the follow up after piss poor first attempt) doesn't change how bad the rest of his game is. We didn't win on Saturday primarily because of our lack of quality up front and Best is a major part of that.

I'm happy that he's scoring at the minute but personally I think he's getting a large slice of luck which I really don't see continuing and very shortly those of you who are coming around to him will be back to realising how bad he really is.

I'll be happy to eat my words if he proves me wrong though.

scoring the bread and butter chances is actually a talent, most goals are scored close in to goal. Its far better than someone who misses the easy chances and scores the spectacular pot shot.

But I take your point, he's hardly the best forward going, but as a striker close to goal, he's doing very well and seems to have an appetite for it.

I totally agree with the bit in bold but I wouldn't say he's good at putting those chances away. His first goal against Fulham and his one on Saturday are prime examples of this. Neither of them could be missed (and I'm talking about after it rebounded off given btw) but he still struggled to get them in. If he keeps getting them (however unimpressive his strikes are) it will be great but personally I don't have any confidence in the quality of his finishing.

He said in the chronicle yesterday that he was a County fan like. Although he did say he used to go watch Forrest too and was a fan of Collymore.

I agree the the ones close to goal are the hardest and alot of the top strikers struggle with them....Torres at the weekend is a good example and Earnshaw against England.

I'd also say that while he should've put the chance away 1st time against Given (nearly fucked up the rebound too  ) he did well to get into that position in the first place. I quite like the lad as he's a grafter and a model pro by all accounts. He just doesn't look the part when you watch him play. I'd much rather have him playing than pricks like Owen or Martins though.

Couldn't really argue with that. If nothing else he wants to be here and do well.

Thought it was more poor defending than anything particularly good on his part.

Maybe I'm being harsh on his finishing like. I just rewatched that compilation and the three goals against West Ham (particularly the last one) were all well taken.

It was a superb pass from Ba hit with pace and accuracy so it evades the defender whose momentum stops him from cutting it out. Best controls it perfectly and finishes very well. Its a good goal, the 3rd against West Ham is decent too but we were 4-0 up at that point and they were totally demoralised. Compared to the rest of his goals, all of that hat-trick was quite good tbf.

I agree with DK about the 2nd Fulham goal tbh. Well taken, aye but poor defending. I reckon Ba just lashed it too. Certainly looked like that.

I thought Ba was having a shot like, commentators though different!

I think if you're judging him as an all round footballer, it's difficult to be overly buoyed about his value anywhere outside of the six yard box. His goal ratio is good though and theres no reason not to think that with a run there may be one more increment to his performance level yet. As a striker getting goals is generally how you kick on, so that's looking ok for him right now.
