Im not sure the Clearance stat is a good thing is it?

If we're making over 10 more clearances per game does that not mean we have a weaker midfield and therefore allowing more to get through and putting more pressure on the back 4? After all, those 10 clearances didnt all result in additional goals last season

certainly will've resulted in more chances though with a healthy supply of goals mixed in to boot, wouldve though itd mean we're conceding fewer corners and freekicks around the box too since we're clearing rather than it going out, letting shots away or fouling

the end of it all though is that 1.50 to 0.57 is the important one

Statistics and league spot might take a nosedive in that treble coming up against the top3 though, I hope we hoard up points in advance. Everton Norwich and Wigan in reverse order isnt it? I can see us getting 5 points from that, and 1 point from the three big following games. so thats 22 points come start of december. Should see us 7th I reckon.

We played the ball out of defence alot more last season aswell with Colo, Jonas and Enrique linking up, so it meant we didnt have to hoof the ball out as much (Not that it stopped Williamson looking for the diag at every oppurtunity)

Difference is in defence, we've scored the same number of goals (9) but have conceded 5 less

And this is why we'll not collapse like Blackpool or Hull. We're not finishing 4th, but neither are we getting relegated.

75 % of the defence were here when we got relegated. Don't think Simpson is the difference. Hopefully the quality in front of them will stay fit/ban free.

How many games will Tiote miss for the African nations?

But Krul, Colo and Saylor (despite the odd moments off stupidity) are much improved and now seem to have gelled as a unit. Raylor and Simpson look less mediocre as a result.

the amount of games Tiote misses because of the ACN depends entirely on how far Ivory Coast go. Competition starts on 21st of January and finishes up mid February.

hopefully (though im not optimistic) Tiotes and Bas known abscence at that point will mean we do business on improving the squad early in jan and have decent backups for them, particularly Tiote, would not like to see Guthrie or Smith getting an extended run

We're so much better for playing the ball on the deck rather than trying to get Nolan to run onto Carroll's knockdowns. Cabaye is absolutely instrumental in this and Ben Arfa's distribution will be equally immense when Pardew starts starting him.

I think we will settle down to this:

-------------Tiote

Marveaux Cabaye Jonas

-----------------Ben Arfa

-------------Ba

Which I think is a much more exciting prospect than this was last year:

Barton Tiote Nolan Jonas

-------Carroll Ameobi

Also Santon looks like he'll be good and will be on a level par with Enrique. Simpson has gone a long way backwards and needs replacing by Raylor IMO.

A quality full back is an absolute must in January, as well as a backup CB. Funnily enough, now that Ba looks like being a class act, Best has come on and Ben Arfa looks like playing in the hole, a striker is down the priority list to number three for me.

Santons had what? 20 mins in the first team max and youre saying hes on a par with our best fullback of recent seasons?

and why is Marveaux suddenly a right winger rather than a backup for our left side which is what he actually is, hes been fit yet barely featured in the first team, hes not been signed as a starter for me hes competition for jonas no our other wing

Just because he's only played 20 mins for us doens't mean that he's not a good player. He has played for other teams too, you know.

35 league starts before coming to us and still just 20 mins in the Premier League. Optimism is all well and good, kneejerk stupidity is not

There is such a thing as gut feeling and it is ok to post based on that feeling. For example, most people's gut feelings over the summer was that we'd be shite and in some cases bottom by Xmas. They were wrong but it was ok to post it based on relatively little evidence ;)
