Meenzer 15449
2nd place in the group for Ireland would likely set up a QF against South Africa, which isn't the worst draw in the world. Would still say that's where they'll go out though.
McFaul 35
New Zealand v Tonga Friday 9th September 2011, 09:30 Match Betting New Zealand 1/900 Draw 90/1 Tonga 66/1 Ouch. If you back the favourites in each of the first 8 games in an accumulator, the odds are 2/5. Waste of time tournament, just move to NZ v Australia in the final to save time. England are wank. Rugby Union isn't a patch on Rugby League, watched a RL game on Sky last night the lead changed hands twice and the favourite lost, much better unpredictable sport. South africa have won the world cup more than New Zealand and England are six nations champions so i wouldnt be guarenteeing a NZ v aussie final. As for which is best, people will never agree but league is just boring to me, it takes out everything that makes rugby what it is. No scrums, no rolling mauls, no rucks, all the physical battles between packs and last ditch defence on the line, no tactical kicking, hardly any point in bulding up to and taking drop goals as its worth a point. It removes all the intricacies of the game and the incredibly technical side of it, because even if you watch it all your life you'll still struggle to understan every aspect of it, its way to complex at the breakdown. Instead in league a guy rams into a line of defenders, gets grounded they back off and somebody else rams into them, they back off and repeat for 5 goes then swap. Obviously you get the odd passing move or great run, but the majority of the game is butting into a defenders who hold you down, ball through the legs and the next guy does the same. They have produced some cracking players though like Offiah, Hanley and Robinson and if the first two had done what Robinson had and switched to union at some point it'd have been great to see them play union, they'd have went down as legends in both forms. But, it would be boring if everybody agreed on everything, there wouldn't be much point in these forums! See that's what I find makes union boring. Scrums take fucking ages, in Union it's just a few dafties and they play, there's more of a non stop feel to it. Batley v Halifax on Sky last night was a more interesting game than I've seen in union for money years.
Papa Lazaru 0
Handled you last time we played I may be wrong (you will know better than me quite how long some players have left and what is coming through the ranks to replace them) but i suspect Ireland are a team that peaked and are now on the downward slope like England after they won the world cup and even with O'Driscoll i don't think you'll do that well at the world cup, IMO. Friendlies two weeks before the world cup without BOD etc don't count, grand slam destroying defeats in the six nations however do Naw your right, after the next 6nations we'll probably lose BOD, Paul O'Connell, Donncha O'Callaghan, D'Aracy etc and the squad will be in tatters. Losing Hayes was a massive loss as well Stephen Ferris and Trimble are good, but losing the two big men for lineouts and O'Driscoll for the flair will be dire. Sexton bottles it all the time as well, he just doesn't have the nerve of o'gara for kicking, much better outfield mind but o'gara is just solid as fuck when it comes to kicks. Seems to be the way in rugby, you get alot of retirements within a short space of time when you've had a top class team and it takes a few years to get back on track and that's if you have the talent coming through. Does keep the six nations interesting though, nobody stays outright top for that long, always another side ready to step up and take it off you. I find union the same as test cricket, i'm a big fan but i can totally undertsand why other people hate them! And you are right about scrums when the ref doesnt do his job, you can be dicking about for ages setting and resetting without going anywhere if he doesn't get a grip, it needs sorting like in football with the backpass rule to stop so much time being wasted. McFaul 35
Another thing about union is the amount of posh cunts who watch it, it's a hooray henry sport iyam, where as league is a northern bamp sport, it's quicker, they're more athletic and far more unpredictable. No one truly knows who will win Super League every season. Also you've got to love this tune. Edited September 9, 2011 by McFaul

No one truly knows who will win Super League every season. Its alot different to how it used to be, in terms of nomal people watching it, especially up here whereas league outside of lancashire and yorkshire hardly anyone gives a flying fuck about it! They certainly used to be more athletic when union was massive forwards and tiny backs but now the union backs are built like league players and the forwards are much more athletes than the old days. I remember years ago back when Wigan were the team who kept winning everything in league every year they played the champions of union back then over two matches, one in league format and one in union fomat, but it was a waste of time as whilst the union lot could play league (but lose badly!) Wigan couldn't play full union rules as they couldn't leagally scrummage properly without experienced front row forwards, so it was a watered down version, which they still lost. StevenL 0
Fucking hell. League better then union? I like league, play it over the summer when there's no union on, but it's no where near as good as union. It's absolutly wank in this country. There's just such a gulf in class between union and league players. The only games worth watching are the 3 state of origin games in Australia. Kitman 2204
Well folks that was a great start to the tournament. Went to the opening festivities in central Auckland, the place was jumping. Some awe inspiring stuff including a fleet of Maori in war canoes in the harbour. Didn't go the match but off to a good start. Glamour tie of the weekend is Scotland v Romania in invercargill - a place Mick Jagger once described as the arsehole of the universe

If you're trying to say League is more competitive, it's not really fair comparing a club match in league to RU internationals, is it? It's a bad comparison to draw anyway from your pov, given there are loads of nations who are competitive in Union (6 nations, South Africa, the Aussies and Kiwis, plus the likes of Western Samoa and Argetntina who often pull off a shock). How many nations are competitive at international level in Rugby League? 3?
