ajax_andy 0
Ok so many on here will say "thank fuck i hate Everton anyway" etc etc, but I thought I would post my insight in to the stark contrast between our 2 clubs... or how it looks to an uninformed outsider anyway. On one hand you have Mike Ashley who seems to not really care about Newcastle United being particularly competative and is very much about the bottom line, making sure the books balance, and ensuring the club runs as a business above all else. Whereas on the other hand you have Everton who's chairman has basically got us in all sorts of financial trouble giving Moyes money for big wages (for a club with our turnover anyway) which we couldn't afford. Now the banks want their money back and apparently we're fighting them off on a daily basis... I fully expect Jagielka to be sold before the window shuts and not replaced. Not only has he messed up with the wages (reportedly now coming in at over 70% of our turnover), he has no idea where over £20m a season goes from our books?!! I'm not saying Mike Ashley is a picture perfect owner by any means, but tbh right now I think I'd rather we'd had a chairman with a more ruthless business head than a chairman too afraid to say no to his manager. I guess there's a fine balance to be had between the two contrasting approaches, but apart from giving Demba Ba 70k a week (that's a joke for those who remember that argument lol) I'm now starting to think Mike Ashley might actually be on to something (albeit in his own not very popular way). Good result against the Makems btw... I watched it and I reckon you just about edged it. Edited August 22, 2011 by ajax_andy

Deano 0
How much would Baines cost? I was thinking the other day that Everton were in trouble. We could help your money troubles and get the quality LB we need. 8mil?

I am sure someone told me he was asked and he couldnt say because he didnt know. Pretty much yeah... Tbh it's hard to tell whether he was unaware of certain facts in the taped conversation (without his knowledge) he had with the supporters group, or whether he didn't want to tell the truth and so lied. If anyone can be bothered to read the conversation it's here: Taped Conversation with Kenwright It will probably make you lot piss yourself but for me it makes for very hard reading! StoneColdStephenIreland 74
He'd cost a fair whack like 15 Mill plus for anyone to get him

He'd be the last one on the books that would be available. Jagielka will be the one to go if anyone. It looks like Kenwright has borrowed something like £13m from some dodgy investment group in the British Virgin Isles secured against next seasons premier league money... that'll probably keep the club ticking over without the need for any major sales (although Jags may go if the price is right) until next summer at least. Its not good when the club is borrowing to pay debts though... recipe for disaster! Baines would be no less than £20m anyway... some agent or other said that a few clubs had been quaoted that earlier in the summer (my guess would be Man City before they bought Clichy for £7m)
Deano 0
He is good but not 15mil good. Then again its just another case of over inflated english player prices isnt it? We will NEVER pay that for a LB, probably not for any player actually.
The Fish 10972
To be honest, I think Kenwright is what Shepherd and Hall would have become. I don't want Ashley, but no, I don't want Kenwright either. I'd want a mix between Gibson and Abramovich

Craig 6700
Depends how much in the brown stuff you lot are. If it's anywhere like Leeds were, they'll be selling the crown jewels first - biggest return on investment etc. Not even up for discussion though - Baines won't be coming here IMO. Arsenal or Man Utd possibly - Spurs even because Assou-Ekotto is shite!

Tom 14013
Baines is quality tbf. £20m though? Carroll £35m Downing £20m Henderson £25m Bent £24m Young £20m Jones £18m The going rate imo.
StoneColdStephenIreland 74
His stocks as high as ever now, so a top team would more likely be in for him Whilst we would never even attempt an ambitious signing And he wouldn't come to us either IMO

Good result against the Makems btw... I watched it and I reckon you just about edged it. There are so many debates in local pubs about this. Everton have averaged around 35, 000 for the last 15 years, have two (or is there also one on the Wirral) merchandise outlets, and had to sell to buy, where has the money gone? For me Everton started on a decline when Dr David Marsh, who had an ordinary GP practice in Walton, became chairman. He seemed small time to me with no vision. It was him who said you didn't need a bigger stand or corporate boxes because football was on a decline, and so amended the original plan for a two tiered stand to a single tier. Considering the stature of some of your former chairman, Marsh was a really big downgrade.

If you include Baines on that list, 15-20m, he's actually the only one worth that kind of money. I think Baines is friggin God-like.
