Dr Gloom 21802
Who is going to get the goals though? We're way weaker now for goals than we were last season. Cabaye might turn out to be a better in the engine room than nolan, but that still remains to be seen. Early days i know but I haven't been massively impressed so far with him. I'm more concerned with who will get the 20-30 goals a season that Nolan and Carroll would have got between them. Shola never gets into double figures and ba usually misses half a season. I went to a few pre-season games and he was our best player in those games, and the two games we've had so far this season we haven't exactly tried to play a passing style or went for it. Although his determination has really impressed me, as well as some of his basic passing play. Once Ben Arfa is back, we hopefully get another striker and the likes of Marveaux play, I think he'll be massive for us. Makes a huge difference having those kind of outlets in front of you. That's kind of the problem though innit with shola our front line striker.
OTF 7243
The more touches he gets in a game the better he'll become. Seems that sort of player. Ergo hasn't had a chance to shine thus far. Fulham could be that game. Could even have a confidence bringing cameo in the Carling Cup match depending how the game is going.
ChezGiven 0
Nolan got one third of his goals last season against the mackems What needs to be accounted for is the number of goals Nolan would have scored this season. If you reckon he would have got 12 again you need your head looking at. Heard he was gash against Leeds.
Coggeh 0
Need 1 striker and 1 left back, if they were both decent quality guys i.e Pieters/Cissokho and someone else as good as Ba then def yes. I voted yes anyway because i think we'll get at least 1 decent player before the 30th Edited August 22, 2011 by Coggeh
Happy Face 29
Nailed on no. Our most consistent and best defender over the last two seasons gone with no replacement and no recognised left back in the squad. Anyone who answered yes is kidding themselves or has misinterpreted the question. But, the window isn't shut yet....so comparing final day vs opening day is a pretty pointless exercise. It's what the predictor said though You argued we'd be stronger if we bought any striker so with signing Ba I assumed you voted yes I also, in my first post on it, should have specified more clearly that I meant after the window had shut. I got side-tracked by you not accepting it as a measurable prediction. Notwithstanding these caveats, I reckon it's yes. The extent of the loss of Enrique is for now not certain as he might get replaced. Marveaux, Obertan and potentially Abeid have brought some excellent depth and options to our midfield and our attack is a whole striker stronger. Am not even discussing Nolan, as Cabaye is clearly a better option in the middle alongside Tiote who carried Nolan last season with his exceptional work rate and efficiency with the ball. Do I get a point? Anyway, the window hasnt shut yet so there is still time to sell even more of our best players. You get the point based on the vote either way. Not sure how anyone can say Marveaux and Abeid have brought "excellent depth" though. Only managed one bench appearance between them so far. Guess we'll see more of what they have to offer at Scunny. One thing you cant ignore is we're 12 goals down on last season. Carroll got a few too. Who'll get them this year? Shola? Ba? Best? I'm not convinced
peasepud 59
I dont think we can say either way yet, weve hardly seen these new players perform either good or bad. Ask the question again in a month and its feasible.
Dr Gloom 21802
The problem for me isn't the new players. They could all turn out to be good buys. The problem is that key players in last seasons squad haven't been replaced yet.
Guest alex
Given we were told that the Carroll cash would be invested and the club attempted to sell us the notion that his sale was for the good of the club, etc. The real question should be whether or not, come September 1st, we are better off, in terms of playing staff, than we were before Carroll was sold. I expect the answer to that will be a resounding no. I wonder whether chez given will argue Barton was carried last season now too.
ChezGiven 0
Leazes is right about you. Barton is/was my favourite player. There were at least 5 better players in our team last year than Nolan. I have not argued that Enrique was carried when he was sold, so why would I say that now? Barton is replaceable but you can have the point back HF as I doubt he will be. It's incredible the spin people will put on things to prove a point. Me mate made the same point as Chez and it gets to the stage where you feel they're only saying it to wind people up. ABEID, this is the fact about Abeid, he's NEVER PLAYED A COMPETITIVE GAME IN HIS CAREER!!!! Not one. How that is depth and how the likes of Donaldson, Smith and Perch are classed as depth I'll never knaa.

Guest alex
Hardly any injuries, and Lovenkrands is starting and we've got Alan Smith on the bench. Enough said really.
