30 goals in 105 in the third last seasons.

= what in The Premiership, 20 in 150 ? He would be up against better defenders and goalkeepers in England. Here's hoping - if we do sign him - I'm totally wrong.

Team Unimpressed.

Better GK in England !!? Are you kidding me ?

Well shirley they would be playing in England, Germany, Spain & France, non?

I mean no disrespect, but the French league is not one of the best, so surely if they had better players [goalies] they'd be elsewhere?

Of course Premier League (or Liga) is a much better league but french GK are (for sure) better than in England.

English and German GK ? Please...

Yes, Germany is well known for their terrible standard of goalkeepers...

Being under 24 years old and scoring 12 goals in 64 games at Le Mans in four years

Who?

Drogba

Now that's a stat I like. When I have doubts, someone reassures me without waffle. To the point, and enough said.

Funnily enough I mentioned Drogba's stats to a kid at work when we were on about this kid. I.e. not saying he's the new Drogba (I know fuck all about the lad) but those stats shouldn't be a reason to write him off.

Agreed.

Gotta give whoever we sign (I know I'm jumping to outrageous conclusions about signing more players  ) a chance to get to grips with the team, league etc. What would have been nice would be another Tino experience ie new signing comes on for the first time and does something brilliant for us to score  (tomorrow would have been nice, but, alas, it's not to be).

When you say English goalkeepers, do you mean they play in England or they are English?

Both.

Cech, Reina and De Gea are worldclass GK. Other...

Really for me neither are at the top of GK ranks.

Friedel, Schwarzer, Howard, even Cudicinni at his peak (Chelsea under the tinkerer) are/were all better keepers than Reina and De Gea* and Cech has never been the same since he was fitted for the helmet.

*De Gea at 20 has a lot of time on his side, unless he keeps fucking up, then he will find himself out in the cold come Jan.

I'm just surprised Fergie didn't get his much-sought-after new GK from France

Agreed. Friedel is still a good keeper like and Reina is canny overrated. I find it hard to believe the French league is brimming with amazing keepers as well. Happy to be proven wrong though.

I'm surprised he didn't hang onto the tourettes yank as he's matured into a decent keeper - probably couldn't cope with someone inadvertently giving him the hairdryer treatment back.

Yep, just like the Spanish League seems to unearth a new stud in the Midfield every couple of month seemingly, France seem to be rolling quality keepers right off the production line.

Except being younger, his stats shows he's just another Shola. I was hoping we'd capture Zigic from Birmingham or Bendtner from Arsenal, or if we are being more clever grabbing Thomas Necid from CSKA. Raw power and a robust head is what we need on top, We already have pace in Ba.

I thought about him.

Not like we can send a txt to AP telling him to have a look at him.

I'd liken him to a young shearer. Battler too.

What?

Ridiculous comment to make. Plenty of young players have a slow start, eventually coming across a breakout season. Which may well have been 2010/11 for this guy.

6 years (age difference) is a long, long time in football.

Guess this meeting didn't go well then.

http://www.sundaysun.co.uk/sport/newcastle...79310-29274412/

NEWCASTLE United have made significant progress in their drawn out efforts to land twin targets Aly Cissokho and Mobido Maiga.

The Sunday Sun understands that Maiga met with Sochaux’s president over the weekend in a bid to straighten out the terms of a deal which would land him his dream move to Newcastle.

Similarly, an initial offer of £7million was rebuffed for Mali striker Maiga – prompting the player to go on strike and refuse to play for his club. United hope a compromise can be reached but will not go to the £10million that Sochaux were originally demanding.

Great to see that we're going about things in the correct, legal manner. Making friends on the continent can only help us.

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12876_7117575,00.html

French outfit Sochaux are set to complain to Uefa about an alleged illegal approach by Newcastle for striker Modibo Maiga.

Magpies boss Alan Pardew is keen to bolster his front line before the close of the transfer window and he has been linked with a £10million move for the Mali international.

The 23-year-old is aware of Newcastle's interest and such is his desperation to push through a transfer he even went on strike.

However, Sochaux chairman Alexandre Lacombe claims the Premier League club have spoken to the striker without their permission and is set to report them to Europe's governing body.

"Newcastle are going on contacting our players despite our refusal," Lacombe told L'Est Republicain.

"So we will register a complaint with Uefa, telling them such behaviour is not fair play. It is provoking destabilisation."
