sammynb 3935
because Jonas is crap? if we want someone running around trying hard ya might as well put smudger on Jonas isn't that quick, can't really dribble and has zero end product, hes a hard working winger that has no abilities of a winger Ant, usually agree with a lot of football post you make but we will have to agree to disagree on Jonas if you have the same opinion of him as CT constantly spouts. tbf manc and kitman have discussed/highlighted everything I was going to say about his game. There was a moment yesterday when Walcott was around Colo and Jonas was there behind him to mop up - we even got a goal kick out of it. For me that spoke volumes about his commitment and worth to the team.
bawan 0
Style of play? There simply was not one yesterday.
sammynb 3935
Personally I think it was a big game against Arsenal and Pards bottled it a bit, hence Ameobi and Jonas's inclusion. If that's the case how the fuck do you rate rapey's decisions/performance as a 7/10 in another thread?!??
Tom 14086
We got a good result yesterday but don't expect to see a style of play in a match where you only have 39% possession. We'll do alright against lesser teams than Arsenal but we desperately need a striker and a left back. That Ameobi pass to Ba - should've been 1-0. Oh i don't disagree his tracking back etc is excellent, but primarily his offensive side is awful, he can't cross pass shoot or really dribble (just looks awkward) If we're going have him on to be a fit nuisance we may as well buy another full back and have him play on the left hand wing, least then it's one who can tackle properly. Sorry like but as a winger going forward he's so inconsistent it's maddening. As for Argentina picking him, Madonna did and played him at right back, which was mental. edit > oh aye i'm not saying he shouldn't get on he probably should, we've no better option currently, and his lack of crossing ability doesn't matter now carrolls gone, he could get the ball to shola 3yards out and he'd still spoon it wide or tackle himself. He has been picked as a winger in his own right too though, and Argentina have hardly been short on decent wingers in recent times.

If that's the case how the fuck do you rate rapey's decisions/performance as a 7/10 in another thread?!?? cos I didnt give him 8, 9 or 10 At the end of the day, he achieved a point against Arsenal with a patched up, make do side after a horrific pre season for numerous reasons. Not a bad effort in my book. Having Gosling instead of Ameobi could have only helped our chances.

Guest alex
Until we get a new LB we need a LW who can track back. Raylor was terrible and I'm surprised they didn't make more of his lack of pace second half. I can remember his arse being handed to him by Gervinho 2 or 3 times first half, I'd be seriously worried if we persist with him there. Might be better to play Jonas at LB than him Jonas tracked back all game I thought. He had to like.

Fair enough about the lack of end product, aye. The forwards probably don't help him on that score mind, but that ones been done to death so we'll leave it there. The Alan Smith comment though inadvertently raises another point. You couldn't put Smith there and to do Jonas' job, even from a purely defensive pov. Jonas has a far better engine than Smith now does, he's better defensively too in terms of the positions he takes up and he's also quicker. You can say he should have more than that as a winger perhaps but he certainly helped out Ryan Taylor a lot, which was absolutely necessary. Perhaps we've been spoilt by having players like Nobby, Robert and Ginola playing for us in wide positions but I don't think Jonas is anywhere near being the weak link in our team. KeithJ 0
I think Pardew had no choice but to play Jonas yesterday even if he had others available. One thing about Jonas is he tracks back and makes sure he is helping out defence. With a right sided defender playing well out of position, we really needed Jonas yesterday. Against a quick Arsenal side, we needed someone with pace and the work rate to keep up with them.
