Unless, as others have suggested, we're doing it back to front and agreeing the player's contract in principle before their current club has even got wind of our interest?

This is the most likely, with the conversation presumably going:

Dekka: Would "X" be interested in playing for Newcastle?"

Player's agent: mais oui

Dekka: Excellent [yells@PRdepartment] Get that rumour out that X wants to sign for us.

Player's club: Hello FIFA, we'd like to report a club approaching our players without our permission, yes of course it's that slimey cunt Dekka.

The impression I get is that usually there's just a fax or email with an offer. Presumably if it's accepted there will be negotiations about the finer details - when to pay, sell on clause, add on amounts etc etc - but the proposition is quite straightforward unless a player exchange is involved. Once that's sorted then you have to sort the player's new contract.

We don't seem to have got past the stage of making an acceptable offer for our latest targets. If indeed we've made offers at all. Unless, as others have suggested, we're doing it back to front and agreeing the player's contract in principle before their current club has even got wind of our interest?

Explains how we've conducted any business. If it was Derek on the phone or worse, showing up in person we'd be straight on the black list at every club.

In for his medical today according to the press. Could start on Sunday.

Which press are reporting on this, mate? He'll not drop Ryan Taylor I doubt at the minute. Think we'll play the same back 4 on sunday then let him get to grips next week.

Should be some positive transfer news for #NUFC today with Erik Pieters due to complete £7m move from PSV. Due in North-East today.

If things progress smoothly, there's even an outside chance of Pieters playing against Fulham on Sunday. #NUFC

Raylor looks undroppable at the minute. He's got us out of two holes and given the lack of goals throughout the team his free kicks are vital.

I wouldn't be surprised if Raylor is moved onto the right, Danny Simpson is dropped and Pieters starts on the left.

PSV Eindhoven defender Erik Pieters has confirmed he expects to join Newcastle before the close of the transfer window.

Newcastle are chasing the full-back as they see him as the ideal replacement for Jose Enrique following the Spaniard's switch to Liverpool.

The Magpies are reported to have agreed a fee with PSV for Pieters and the 23-year-old has admitted his appearance in Thursday's Europa League win over SV Ried may have been his swansong at the Dutch club.

Pieters told Algemeen Dagblad newspaper: "If a club from the Premier League says they want you, and that is the case, then you know the financial means they have.

"Whether I play for PSV at Excelsior on Sunday or am already at Newcastle I do not know.

"I have not seen much of Newcastle myself but my friend (and fellow Dutchman) Tim Krul keeps me informed."

you know you're fucked as a club when you're luxury player has gone from being Robert to Raylor *

(To clomplete the 3 r's - you're right !)

* and that 'under the circumstances' (sausage fingers has us in) he'd be very unlucky to get dropped .

Pardew kept mentioning a ''contingency plan'' if we were to sell Jose & that their was funds available - so add the available funds to the £6m and I don't see what the problem is.

What kind of contingency plan involves going without a left back for 2 + games, who the fuck doesn't have a left back ffs?

Unless he's lying...

I don't think he's lying. You have to know the truth to then be able to lie about it.

Raylor needs to be out of the team asap. Yes he's scored a couple but he's gonna cost us soon defensively and I think he's harming our attacking play by not offering any link up down the left. Hopefully this deal gets completed in time for Sunday.
