All of a sudden, the #nufc midfield looks crowded. HBA, Cabaye, Tiote, Barton, Jonas, Marveaux, Gosling, Abeid, Vuckic, . Nice depth.

I've said this before, our midfield has undoubtedly improved since last year and is the best its been for a very long time.

The best since Solano, Robert, Dyer, Speed in 2002?

I'd agree. If Marveaux, Gosling and Abeid are canny, then we have attacking minded options off the bench which is what we were missing.

If HBA can get properly fit & perform without being kicked to death, yes if not no.

He's not going to be playing in midfield though.

I don't think we just rely on HBA, We got a good bunch of players in midfield and the new players are looking good. Gosling was really good against The Crew and that Abeid looks alright

I wasn't saying we were dependant on HBA per se - just that if our contemporary midfield were to equal the ability of the 2002 midfield HBA would need to be on form.

Going to be a bit of a headache picking the right midfield, particularly if Gosling continues in that form. Nice problem to have.

Now just find someone to finish!!!!!

Pre Season is all about gaining sharpness. We know Ba can finish & I reckon he will show us this when the competitive football starts.

Wonder what Gosling's preferred position is. Used like a jack of all trades by Everton. We'll be needing someone to cover for Tiote's suspensions - hopefully Smith is not an option. The only area that he can match it with Cheick is in obtaining cards.

I'll agree when I've seen more of the quality we can expect from deadballs. Nobby and Larry were something else. Wasn't Solano said to have the best delivery from wide positions after Beckham? and Robert... well we all remember Man U, Ipswich, Derby etc. but the one against Southampton was something else.

We are still quite under-staffed up front though and that is a major concern for me.

What post are you replying to? The one i didnt write which says better than or the one i wrote which says best since?

Ignoring this for one moment, i would agree that wide delivery from Solano and Robert was magnificent and amongst the best in recent premiership history. We've got more depth and a stronger middle now than then but since the real ammunition was coming from out wide that 2002 midfield was more 'dangerous' © Parky.

Was that the low drive in the 3-1? Awesome.

It was the two against Spurs I will always remember. Both put in to goal of the season competition as well. On the day he said he wasn't feeling well too!
