Tom 14013
It's not that people are far to interested in you, it's that they fiercley hate Newcastle so they love to see them fail. Really? Don't you think you're own personal hatred may be clouding your vision? Perhaps they thought it was a good idea to show the team who scored more home goals than anyone bar Man United rather a club like say - Sunderland - who couldn't buy a goal? McFaul 35
Sunderland have sold their no. 1 striker and best midfielder recently in order to finance transfers so they're not as different to NUFC as you seem to be suggesting. There is not much difference at all between our clubs. Thats my point. We both have fantastic fanbases, and have excellent attendances. Some of you lot actually believe you are far 'superior' We both know our fanbase is at least 3 or even 4 times bigger than Sunderland's your local support is commendable, when people in your area could easily support a more fashionable club just 15 miles up the road. However, if we had ticket prices like yours I think we'd fill a 100,000 stadium. £28 dearest ticket 4fs. See against Tottenham even wor cheapest was something like 45 quid. McFaul 35
Some of you lot think you're superior... Aye. If you've ever seen the film trainspotting, the way I've said that "aye" is the same way Begbie says it when Renton goes "wooah we've just been to Tommy's funeral and you wanna talk about a scag deal." In terms of proper fans i.e North East it's more like 2 to 1, you need to accept that the Keegan years gave us hundreds of thousands of hangers on and an international fanbase too, that you just don't have. 100 games in Europe in 12 years helped too and you haven't had that. McFaul 35
I would agree that we have an element of fan base that think we are far superior..but I would also say that you have an element that are far too interested in what we're up to. What I'm trying to say is, we both have a minority of loud knackers. It's not that people are far to interested in you, it's that they fiercley hate Newcastle so they love to see them fail. It's partly because of the deluded element in your support that dismiss Sunderland as a 'lesser' club, and partly beacause Sunderland as a city has been given little investment and has been left to rot in the past whilst Newcastle has flourised. My nana could not give a shit about football, but she won't spend a penny in Newcastle. She is not 'obsessed'. She is just like the majority of people from Sunderland.... She hates Newcastle Don't confuse hate with being obsessed. The hate is what makes the derby so big. FTM Ya nana sounds like a fuckin mug.

Rhys1879SAFC 0
If you look at the crack on RTG - they act as if they are far far superior and that SAFC signings have "SET THE TRANSFER WINDOW ALIGHT" RTG is an embarrassment, I think any like minded SAFC fan would acknowledge that. Rhys1879SAFC 0
I also don't see why the actual cities need to be brought into this? Not being born in either Newcastle or Sunderland it doesn't really bother me, I go to Newcastle for nights out and to socialise, whereas I don't think I've ever set foot in Sunderland other than to watch a match, whats the big deal? Its not like calling Sunderland a shithole is going to upset me.
loonyTOON 10
Had a conversation a while back with a friend who works for Sky and he said that Newcastle have a big viewership when we are playing. And we're also one of those teams that the neutrals don't mind watching. Hence we have so many on television. Think if you list each team with how many times they are on tv, it would then be a list of popular teams to watch to those teams no-one watches. Maybe it is that the rest of the nation just watch us hoping we're beaten (I don't agree with this, but it's something you may like to cling to), but the fact is more people want to watch us than you lot. Sky wouldn't put us on so much if no one wanted to watch us ffs.

Its not like calling Sunderland a shithole is going to upset me. It does demonstrate a lot of Sunderland fans have no real affiliation to the place, unlike Newcastle fans. I think it's an important distinction between the two clubs/places. In Newcastle the city and the club are intertwined in a way which Sunderland AFC and the town of Sunderland (nominally a city, I know ) just aren't. To quote Bobby Robson "It’s the noise, the passion, the feeling of belonging, the pride in your city." That doesn't apply to you lot and that's a bit sad tbh.
