Adam is going to liverpool. maybe worth a gamble but i think they need better players if they want to get into the top 4

Liverpool have confirmed that they have finally reached an agreement with Blackpool regarding the transfer of Charlie Adam.

The Scotland international will now travel to Merseyside to undergo a medical and discuss personal terms, meaning the deal will more than likely be completed before the weekend.

Discussions between the two clubs have been ongoing for six months following failed bids in the winter, but progress was made on Wednesday morning.

The previous sticking point had been Liverpool's apparent refusal to meet an asking price set by Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston and manager Ian Holloway.

With funds in short supply, Blackpool have been understandably eager for as much profit as possible on their 25-year-old captain and skysports.com has reported that the price tag is £9million.

"Liverpool football club today announced they have reached agreement with Blackpool for the transfer of Charlie Adam. The player will now travel to Merseyside for a medical and to discuss personal terms."

Progress

Liverpool, who were also understood to be prepared to offer Jonjo Shelvey on loan as a sweetener, have not confirmed a fee, but have announced an agreement with their former top-flight rivals.

A statement on the Anfield club's official website read: "Liverpool football club today announced they have reached agreement with Blackpool for the transfer of Charlie Adam.

"The player will now travel to Merseyside for a medical and to discuss personal terms."

Liverpool failed in their attempts to sign Adam in the January transfer window, when Tottenham also showed an interest, but are now almost certain to have got their man.

It is unlikely that personal terms will prove a stumbling block, with Adam widely reported to have set his heart on a move to Liverpool in the winter, to mean Blackpool are set to lose their influential playmaker.

Pursuit

They also announced in a short statement: "Blackpool football club can confirm that an agreement has been reached with Liverpool for the transfer of skipper Charlie Adam.

"The 25-year-old has now been granted permission to discuss personal terms with the club and undergo a medical."

The progress will help appease Liverpool fans who were becoming antagonised by the club's stuttering business in the transfer window.

Manager Kenny Dalglish signed Jordan Henderson for £20m from Sunderland, but was beaten to Connor Wickham by the Black Cats, while Phil Jones joined Manchester United.

However, the announcement regarding Adam also follows action in the pursuit of Aston Villa's Stewart Downing, who was the subject of a failed £15m bid on Tuesday.

Liverpool are expected to make a renewed approach for the England winger in the region of £19m, with owners Fenway Sports Group determined to sign young, British talent.
