The BBC celebrated the fact a woman got the job for the first time. A bigger achievement would be somebody getting the job who isn't French.

Its quite bizarre when you think that one home game attendance at St James park equates to half the size of our army.

It is indeed bizarre. And also not true.

How so grasshopper?

The number serving in the armed forces is well in excess of 200,000. Then there's the reservists to take into account as well.

I certainly did and at last count the regular army stood at 106,000

It makes no sense to simply count the number in the regular army.

Unless thats the thing he compared it too.

"You have more front than Brighton"

"Yes yes but do I have as much front as would be found on the entire British coast line. I think not eh...."

Please, enlighten me. I am all ears to why a bankrupt country in the midst of horrific cuts, should borrow money to pay a 400,000 strong army that it no longer needs?

Because they think they still need it? I assume youre in favor of scrapping trident as Britain can't afford it?

Yes.

I dont think we need Trident nuclear carrying submarines, no.

We have enough land based nuclear missiles to put off invaders.

(I think both Labour and Conservatives agree btw which is why the decision keeps getting fudged along from one government to the next).

Where in the country are the uk's land based nuclear weapons then?

I think you might find the only deterrent we have are sat on board two or 3 submarines.

Are you suggesting that Pakistan and India can afford a deterrant but we cant?

Whether we can afford it is immaterial....In the not too distance future one of these two could have their finger on the button!!!!!

He has to complete Sonic the hedgehog 2 all the way through. You can't save it which is why every Prime minister since John Major has predicted for 2 hours a day. Everyday.

I once got told btw, that no british prime minister can launch Trident without first getting the ok from the USA! Is that true?

 Taxi rank banter.

Not quite.

Did you also know that unlike those films you see on TV, our boys can launch the missiles without authorisation (if they wanted too), unlike the states where they have to enter codes etc.

Indeed. And I'm also not sure where CT's figure of 400,000. You got a source CT?

TBH, the whole Greece thing could be sorted out if Europe had some sort of financial union, I know it's not a popular idea but I PERSONALLY think it'd help if we put all our eggs in one basket. The potential problem being that Greece could bring the rest of us down, as opposed to the rest bringing them up. On a similar note, I was thinking earlier how crazy it'd be if that Anglo-Franco Union had worked in the 50's .

Also I have no figures or actual proof that a financial union would work, it's just pie in the sky and no doubt someone here with better knowledge of economics will shoot me down. Surely it must be considered though?
