ChezGiven 0
http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2011/jul/04/m...d-news-of-world Paperwork seen by the Guardian reveals that they paid a Hampshire private investigator, Steve Whittamore, to obtain home addresses and, where necessary, ex-directory phone numbers for any families called Dowler in the Walton area. The three addresses Whittamore found could be obtained lawfully on the electoral register. The two ex-directory numbers, however, were "blagged" illegally from British Telecom's confidential records by one of Whittamore's associates, John Gunning, who works from a base in Wiltshire. One of the ex-directory numbers was attributed by Whittamore to Milly's family home. Then, with the help of its own full-time private investigator, Glenn Mulcaire, the News of the World started illegally intercepting mobile phone messages. Scotland Yard is now investigating evidence that the paper hacked directly into the voicemail of the missing girl's own phone. As her friends and parents called and left messages imploring Milly to get in touch with them, the News of the World was listening and recording their every private word. But the journalists at the News of the World then encountered a problem. Milly's voicemail box filled up and would accept no more messages. Apparently thirsty for more information from more voicemails, the News of the World intervened – and deleted the messages that had been left in the first few days after her disappearance. According to one source, this had a devastating effect: when her friends and family called again and discovered that her voicemail had been cleared, they concluded that this must have been done by Milly herself and, therefore, that she must still be alive. But she was not. The interference created false hope and extra agony for those who were misled by it. The Dowler family then granted an exclusive interview to the News of the World in which they talked about their hope, quite unaware that it had been falsely kindled by the newspaper's own intervention Hope they call off the BSkyB deal. Perhaps not as abhorrent as this particular case, but still illegal.

Kevin S. Assilleekunt 1
This says it all. The Sun's coverage of this story, today: How fitting that a weapons-grade cunt like Kelvin Mckenzie has his mug right next to it, a man that was applauded on QT in the past year for his bile. It doesn't reflect well on our culture, that people like this can make a good living out of supposed journalism.

Shame really as it calls for an express style campaign of shameless magnitude to get the notw banned. The guardian couldn't whip up an ounce of hysteria, fake or otherwise, even if you gave them evidence of polish Nazi lesbians colluding with prince Philip to kill Diana Edited July 4, 2011 by Happy Face

Craig 6700
That paper sinking to new depths. And there's rumours flying round tonight that they did the same to the families of the girls killed at Soham. There's no fucking respect. Fuck fining the bastards, they've got a slush fund specifically for covering libel costs.
Kitman 2207
This is not only seriously offensive of the NOTW but it's also seriously breaking the law assuming a police investigation was under way at the time. Invasion of privacy, fraudently obtaining information, impeding a police investigation, tampering with evidence etc. And that's before you get into whether they've commited any legal offence against Milly Dowler's family by interfering. If this is true, I'd like to see whoever was involved lose their jobs, be publicly outed and go to prison, including those responsible for sanctioning the tapping. If the editorial/reporting staff know they have skin in the game other than relying on someone else's pockets to bail them out they might think twice next time. Wouldn't surprise me to see the press close ranks on this.
Craig 6700
Wouldn't surprise me to see the press close ranks on this. Now's the time to see who the real politicians are who will go beyond 'party politics' and put their neck on the line to nail that bastard Murdoch. Too many are concerned by re-election though. Come on Cameron - lets see how your personal morals stand up!
