I don’t disagree with any of that, but even when you see “54 years”, it’s mind blowing to think they pulled it off then with the technology available at that time. Not sure whether it’s true, but it used to be said a big standard calculator has more processing capabilities that what was available back then. But a lot of conspiracy theories cherry pick evidence of course. JFK is an interesting one on terms of its development. I think if you go back a fair way most people would’ve thought there was definitely something amiss with the official version of events. I used to think so. Obviously people will still believe there was but a lot of recent innovations like computer modelling and so on point to Oswald being a lone shooter acting without backing. I suppose a part of it is it being more scary to think a lone nutter can take out the most powerful person in the world. The conspiracy theory acting as a kind of comfort blanket. I like how (to most sane people), the invention of smart phones, video cameras etc has basically killed the UFO stuff.

Aye. It’s interesting isn’t it? A lot of the infowars nutters were into all that and now act like it never happened.
NJS 4411
If you go to the national space museum in Washington DC and actually see the lunar modules complete with bacofoil and other such 60s wonders it does make you think either it didn't happen or they deserve even bigger plaudits for pulling it off - I'm in the latter camp. The lunar modules that went to the moon will be floating around space still. As they took off from the moons surface then rejoined the command module. But you’re right in that any that went didn’t return to Earth I think

Alex 35567
As an aside, some of the photographs taken on the missions by the astronauts, including from the Moon’s surface are absolutely incredible imo. I'm in the latter plus. Meaning, I personally think it is not only idiotic being in the former camp, but also incredibly disrespectful and depressing that there will always be people who downplay mankind's greatest achievements. There are mountains of materials on the Apollo missions, some great books, and many fascinating documentaries. I'm in the camp now where I know there is no point debunking this stuff and the people that espouse these conspiracy theories are not worth the steam off my piss. If I sound angry, that's because I am. I made a tongue in cheek post just last week about how damaging this utter lunacy in thinking is to society, and what the ultimate outcome will be. 30% of the US are actual anti-vaccers ffs. I just think this has real consequences, and stuff like the Apollo conspiracies are like a gateway drug. Once an idiot believes one of them, they tend to swallow the whole lot. I don't know what happened to Parky btw, but wolfy currently resides on the SMB. His sea lioning of the mackems when he talks about NUFC is actually quite amusing tbf.
Sonatine 11542
If memory serves, one of the Lunar missions left a mirror on the moon which can be used to bounce a high powered laser off to measure it's distance from the Earth. Pretty sure if Russia or China had tried that with no success, they'd be singing from the rooftops about it

It was at the height of the cold war, I am sure the USSR would definitely not have mentioned it was a fake if they had any doubt, if they'd even bothered watching obviously. P.S. It happened, it is preposterous to suggest otherwise. Edited March 6, 2023 by Toonpack

Well, in terms of automated calculations, sure the modern calculator has more processing power than the monster machines they had then. But the mathematics was just completed by people and brains have pretty powerful processing capability. You might enjoy the film "Hidden Figures". I remember my Dad brining home a early version of a laptop, it was massive, the battery pack was huge and it essentially needed to be constantly plugged in. He proudly declared "you could run a small country" with it. Well, sure, it had a spreadsheet program and a word processor.
Ayatollah Hermione 14043
What’s actually interesting with the Moon landing that, I believe, there’s 9 minutes of missing communication between the lads and NASA. Or it’s never been officially released or something like that. I appreciate that’s vague but Google it

The moon is very gradually drifting away from the earth and it measures that iirc
