Monkeys Fist 42003
Just about spot on Tom. It was January 1957, we were playing Bolton, Mackems had Southampton. They borrowed our kit for their game, but our away kit was white, which clashed with Bolton. So we borrowed theirs. http://www.historicalkits.co.uk/Newcastle_United/Newcastle_United-change-kits.html
Tom 14011
Says 1951 there man! In January 1951, Newcastle swapped home shirts with Sunderland, who were due to play Southampton in the FA Cup, which required both clubs to change in the event of a clash (both teams had white alternative tops so Southampton borrowed a set of amber shirts from the Hampshire Regiment FC). As a result, Newcastle played Bolton Wanderers wearing Sunderland's red and white stripes.
