Renton 22020
El coto probably my favourite restaurant at the moment. Just been for a family pub lunch at the Church Mouse near Chester le Street. Appalling. Awful value, food obviously not fresh - or hot -, wrong orders, don't serve decent coffee (filter coffee only, wtf, this place is supposed to specialise in food), oh, and they charge extra for 'deluxe' chips, whatever they are (presumably better than the rank ones I got). There were 8 of us and they took over 2 1/2 hours to serve mains and dessert. It wasn't busy either. Unacceptable. This is the same chain as the Badger near Ponteland, which I thought was half decent. Won't go back to either again.
Happy Face 29
I must be the only person that doesn't like el coto. Mind there's never been a tapas place I have particularly enjoyed.

Hit and miss for me... For every amazing meal I've had in there they've completely fucked up another. Including my wife's birthday! Always given us a free meal as an apology so fair play to them. Shame because when its good its very good, but they can't cope with large groups or if its really busy it seems
Howmanheyman 33925
I enjoyed El Coto and so did the Missus. Went to that Soho bar before and after too which was canny enough. Was a bit pissed in the taxi on the way home and somehow the conversation with Wife and Taxi driver turned to Whitney Houston/Michael Jackson. We all know what taxi drivers are like for patter, (cough, CT, cough), so when the taxi driver said he was 'touched' by Michael Jacksons death I straightaway had enough, leaned forward and touched his leg whilst shouting out "HEE HEE!" in the Jackson/Bo selecta style. He took it as a joke to be fair but unfortunately wor lass laughed from me doing it to us getting home which thinked was starting to irk him a bit. Never mind. Tooj 17
Going for a Ruby at Solomons in Denton Burn tonight. I've never been there before but heard many people say that it's the best curry joint in town.

Gemmill 46131
Nah I live at Greenside. The bit of great park that's just over the A1 near Kingston Park. So this place isn't exactly on my doorstep but is handy enough.

Ayatollah Hermione 14072
Not strictly restaurants but where's good for a Sunday Dinner? I know Tilleys is canny (and cheap) but just wondering if there's anywhere I'm not thinking of that does good ones.

GeordieLamped 0
There used to be a Thai place just off St. James' boulevard called Utong, maybe it's food nostalgia but I remember it was bloody good. As someone who has just come back to Newcastle, are there any decent Thai places about?

Went to Cafe Salsa the other night on the restaurant week deal. Tenner for three courses and a bottle of Peroni. Was really good. Going to Sachins tonight. Not been to Paradiso for years but it was really nice when I've been before.

Hey chunk, get 4 people together and go to the Broad Chare. Ring them in advance and order the lamb that they cook all day. I've never had it but its meant to be class. They had the £10 deal on but I really fancied other stuff that wasn't on the reduced £10 menu. Antipasto Caldo: Fish cake, homemade tart, tomato & mozzarella salad, goats cheese wontons, chicken skewer & lamb skewer To Share for two. Followed by Mix Grilled Meats: Best end of lamb, chicken breast, minute steak & Italian sausage, served with salad & hand cut chips. Truly the best food Ive ever eaten. GeordieLamped 0
Old Siam down on the quayside is good. Think that's what it's called. Cheers, sounds like that's my best shot at some decent Red curry... Avoid 'Love's Thai' I did not love's their Thai! Horrible food! I will avoid, I actually went past it when last in town and it just looked naff for some reason. Maybe the lack of gaudy wallpaper and pictures of the Thai royal family, which usually indicates a fairly decent Thai restaurant IMO.
