Deano 0
Just got a txt from a mate who works with the academy. He was right about the Demba Ba contract. He reckons Sevilla bid 5mil for Coloccini and we have told them 7mil and it looks likely. Also that if that happens we have agreed a fee with Stoke for Shawcross for 12mil. Guest alex
Shawcross alongside Colo would be better. There's no way we should be looking to sell the latter.
ChezGiven 0
Its an extremely sad thing to say but why would Shawcross want to leave Stoke for here? Stoke = Europe. Its a no brainer. The first part of the process is making an offer to the club and the club accepting the offer. The player is not involved until this point, other than through an agent who always has a vested interest in getting the player to think about it. Its first of all about whether Stoke want £12m for the player. If they do, then its down to whether the agent can persuade the player (if needed) to discuss terms which may be better than what he is on. Then the transfer happens. Why would Nolan go to West Ham? Newcastle = premier league. Its a no brainer.

Deano 0
Very, very unlikely story tbh If Colo left, getting a fee of 7mil for a 29 (i think) year old is good. We would be losing our best CB and Shawcross would be the perfect replacement. Younger, talented and would be on lesser wages even with an improvement on what he's on at Stoke. As for Stoke being in the europa league...so fuck. One year....they wont be next year. We can offer him much more than that. We are Newcastle United remember. We shouldnt be selling our best players though, Colo's been a revelation and we shouldnt be even considering bids for him when weve got him here and is solid and consistent We shouldnt be thinking about money either, whether it be wages or whatever Plus he'd cost alot more than £12 million if Jones went for 16-20 and Smalling for £10 million, Stokie will be wanting £15 mill+
Kevin S. Assilleekunt 1
Why would Nolan go to West Ham? Newcastle = premier league. Its a no brainer. That was a massive step up for Nolan in terms of the contract he'll be on at a crucial stage in his career.
philippealbert 0
thug, an over rated thug at that and certainly not a 12 million player didnt think I'd be saying this after his first season but colo is a massive player for us now and 29 is not old for a centre half. Im not so sure if you take Shawcross out a well drilled team he would be that good.

sammynb 3585
The level of idiocy currently being displayed daily in the football forum is phenomenal. Successful football is all about building upon the spine of the team: keeper>Colo>Tiote>Carroll/Nolan We've lost Carroll/Nolan and now it would be a good move to take 7m for our best CB, oh do fuck off. Would 15m be a great deal for Tiote as well? No, 20m then? What would you think of a builder that once he's finished build a structurally sound house, who knocks it down completely and rebuilds it with cheaper, untested materials? You would laugh at the fuckwit. But I'm not laughing

Found the 5 year deal and 50k a week more attractive, fuck all to do with the club being attractive as basically they are a championship club who will loose its best players. Payday for Nolan, that's it. Even you said you wouldn't have given him a 5 year deal

I asked Pop Robson once, about him leaving Newcastle for West Ham after giving a press conference labelling NUFC as "unprofessional" ie lacking in ambition etc, and it is what he thought at the time. The wheel has turned full circle. If a company makes YOU a more attractive offer which mirrors they are a more attractive company, you would also leave. If Ryan Shawcross sees NUFC as a more attractive prospect than Stoke City, and don't kid yourself, the money is part of it, then he will make the move. It would appear the most popular word being used on here just now, for any player who doesn't cost peanuts, is "linked". And once again, even this "link" has to involve selling one of our current best players, which is no way to build a good football team, it is what selling clubs and small clubs like Bolton and Blackburn do. I agree that changing the team too much is a dangerous game but for the above to be true it would mean NUFC were a more attractive club than Real Madrid when Owen came and ditto Man Utd when we signed Alan Smith. Players move for more money / security all the time. With Nolan though I think if we'd wanted to keep him then a compromise could've been reached. Offering what West Ham have given him would've been stupid though. There's no way he'l be worth that in 3-4 years time.

I don't have a problem with players asking for money, its part of the game, the same as me and you would move for money. Why do arseholes see it as an evil, and try to justify football politics by using it ? The simple fact Alex is if you want to have quality footballers at your football club, you have to attract them with the current rate and a show of ambition in line with their desire to play at the top and be as successful as they can be. That is totally normal, and any player who doesn't harbour such ambitions, well - you shouldn't touch them to be honest, if they don't have the desire to succeed at the highest levels.
