harrynufc 0
Ok I've read the entire thread about us signing marveaux and was bored so i decided to read some liverpool forums (at the time when they thought marveaux was coming to mersyside) to find out more about the player. However, after reading the threads from a few different forums, i came back wanting to raise another issue; an issue of attitude and mindset. It was shocking to see the different mentality both sets of supporters showed with the same news of signing the same player, for the same price and having the same background on the player. As a whole most liverpool fans were only happy to accept the deal if he is a back up player, and helps with the depth of the squad. Virtually all of them still wanted a proven winger to be signed on top of the marveaux signing. The logic behind this was that he is a) injury prone, b ) he plays in a poor league and c) teams like chesea/man utd lost interest quite a while ago for a reason (hes on the 'wane' if you like). On the contrary many posters on here seem quite optimistic about this signing. Already addig him to team formations for next season, talking about how we're finally spending some of that 35 million on wages for quallity players. Basically, theres an obvious difference in the feel/response between the boards of the two teams. So why the stark difference you may ask? Well, it could be a number of things 1) Does it all come down to liverpool having higher aspirations, aiming for champions league etc or is it more than that? 2) Is it because their recent history with french players has been very poor so theyre vigilant on signing any more whereas we've brought in some good french players? 3) Is it because FMA and Llambias (with the help of certain posters) have built up such a melaoncholy vibe around the place that we now have a lower threshold to show contentment/joy? Would we have shown a less optimistic response to signing a player of a similar calibre 10 years ago. 4) Or is it because ive been chronically exposed to LeazesMags' posts that im now begining to take a more bleak outlook to everything. Thoughts? I would have put this under the marveaux thread but i think its bigger than that. Its not just liverpool that you can make the comparison to, its other teams also. PS: Many scousers kept questioning the success rate of free transfers. How many free transfers over the last few seasons have been shown to be quality players in the premiership (in terms of percentage). Point to ponder. Kevin S. Assilleekunt 1
It's because this site has great posters like CT and Deano who spunk themselves every time we sell our captain and replace him with johnny-foreigner paraplegic types who we'll be lucky to get 3 games out of in a season. Christmas Tree 4856
A no brainer this one. Of course 10 years ago we had higher standards and of course the last 4 years of MA has lowered expectations. We've only just fought back from relegation and the most anyone was praying for last season was survival. That's a quite different mindset and set of circumstances to a Liverpool fan. All that matters to most on here is whether we start next season stronger than last. That we won't know til August for definite but I still think that apart from the hard core "haters" most fans are quite optimistic by the new incomings and the speed with which we are attacking this window. And rightly so.
Gemmill 46127
This is only CT's second summer transfer window as a Newcastle fan, so you can forgive him the excitement.

While it's encouraging that we're doing business early in the window, most of us won't get too carried away until the window's shut. Until then, there's always a chance he'll sell more senior players without getting in adequate replacements.

Christmas Tree 4856
The real bottom line Harry is that we won't know until the end of the season. We can therefore have to make a guess when the window closes based on how we feel about the changes. The optimists will get carried away, the negatives will predict doom by Christmas and the truth will be somewhere in-between.
