I never knew about this btw.

England skipper Tony Greig caused a huge controversy in the lead up to the 1976series against the West Indies. Appearing on television to discuss the comingsummer Greig's inflamatory words landed him in hot water when he attempted to highlight the West Indies players' reputation for wilting under pressure. The word 'grovel' had sinisterconnotations for West Indian people many of whom have slave ancestry. Rarely has an attempt to psyche out an opposition failed sospectacularly. The West Indian fast bowlers took great delight in adding yardsto their run up when Greig came to the wicket and their supporters took equaldelight when his wicket was captured.

What a tit. ;)

White was a talent, I remember him bowling Lara with a beauty through the gate. He could bat as well, made a test hundred against India didn't he? But like our other genuine fast bowlers (Flintoff, Jones etc) injuries just took their toll.

Didn't Harmison get out to a loose drive when White was 99 not out once in a test? ;) Cheers mate.

Yeah, bellend. The closest Michael Atherton ever came to making a ton at Lord's was when he was run out (in a test against NZ I think) for 99, I don't know who was at fault though.

I remember watching that as a bairn. I was gutted for him. <_<

Even though we're talking a different era, due to his versatility, Sobers has to be pound for pound the greatest cricketer of all time.

Marshall is the best fast bowler I've seen and Richards is the best batsman. It was an awesome side although I can only really remember the last time Lloyd captained them in this country (the famous 'blackwash' series). I remember Richards' sides more. The only criticism I'd have of them was the lack of variety in their attack and the slow over rate. Roger Harper was probably the best 12th man going as well but he couldn't get a look in, bar in ODIs.

Harper: arguably the best fieldsman I've ever seen. Wasn't a bad containment bowler either, during the middle overs. He was ideally suited the short game. Gomes was also underrated - unfashionable compared to the intimidators ahead of him, but a rock to have in the middle order.
