You get my point, can't complain about wages when we have utter shit on more than a player that would improve our team. Still, Smiths probably stupid enough to accept a contract like that. 2bias 3
I think it's depressing when this is all were going for striker wise, I'm not convinced on this guy at all. For me his stats don't make pleasant reading especially when we need a goal scorer. Hopefully I'm wrong and he turns out amazing scoring 20+ a season......some how I think not. Well as long as we can sell him for a good deal more than 6.5 mill, then it's a good signing for the balance sheet Leaving cynicism to one side, it seems we've been chasing this bloke for over a year so I hope they've seen something in him football-wise. Maybe PSG haven't got the best out of him yet.

We have plenty of other players who create goals and assists and now we need someone who can stick the ball in the back of the net. I admit the portents aren't hopeful but maybe he's been played in the wrong way. Fuck knows I'm clutching at straws and he hasn't even signed. What I am hopeful about is that if Ben Arfa's fit, and some of the new lads bed in, we might have more goal threat across the front line and midfield (excluding Jonas) than last term, so we're not so dependent on one or two players to score. Again that's may just be wishful thinking...
Park Life 71
How do we know he's second rate though? Have you seen him play regularly? This. He had one disappointing season by all accounts and PSG brought in Gameiro because they're owned by Qatar's sovereign wealth fund. That doesn't make Erding a castoff, perhaps he just won't fit into their system now. A different type of player as far as I'm aware. Would the club put this much supposed effort into a player they were "settling for"? Only 24 still time to mature into a better striker. Goal ratio will improve. Think he's decent. Gejon 2
Sure I read today he scored something like 15 in 31 the season before and was voted PSG's player of the season. Doesn't bode well that so many seem down on him before he has even signed
jonasjuice 0
Sometimes people say we need to sign a 20+ goal a season striker as if theres loads of them hanging around that would guarantee that. There aren't. Torres has managed it twice in England, Drogba twice in seven seasons here. It's not unusual for a player to have an underwhelming season after a particularly good one, like Erdinc's just experienced. If he came in, refound his form and managed 10-15 league goals (which isn't all that pie in the sky) then he'll have been a success. Yeah he might not be overly keen right now, but the pretty clear rejection from PSG may just make him feel he has something to prove. Plus I like his funny c/g. ChezGiven 0
I was quizzing my mate tonight about his performance last season, he reckons the manager's style was more suited to playing Hourau and Nene. Also his style of play would suit a more physical league as the amount of diving/going down easily in the French league meant he gave a lot of fouls away. Christmas Tree 4827
Newcastle United set Mevlut Erdinc transfer deadline NEWCASTLE United have turned down two Championship bids to loan out unwanted striker Nile Ranger – as they look for an answer from top target Mevlut Erdinc by the end of next week. Birmingham City made an approach for Ranger on Tuesday but their offer was turned down, while another London-based Championship club have firmed up their interest in the past 24 hours too – only for that approach to be rebuffed by United bosses. Newcastle are increasingly confident that they will have a new striker in by the end of the month, and have been telling agents approaching them with new names that a deal for one of their targets is in the pipeline. Erdinc remains their priority but, well aware that time is of the essence, they have handed the forward a deadline to decide whether to move from Paris Saint Germain. The Turkish striker’s club are in London to play the Emirates Cup at the home of Arsenal this weekend. And Erdinc himself knows that his days in the French capital are numbered – even if a move to Newcastle has proved tortuous after his initial indications that he wanted to move to St James’ Park. Whatever happens with Erdinc, Ranger will leave the club before the end of the August transfer window after falling foul of Magpies manager Alan Pardew at the end of last season. Former United chief Chris Hughton – now manager of Birmingham – is keen to add the young forward to his attacking arsenal. But Newcastle do not believe that there is any point in sending him to St Andrews on loan – because the financially-stricken Blues will not be able to broker a permanent deal for the striker. That has dismayed the forward, who would welcome a move to the second city, and a reunion with a boss who would protect him on and off the pitch and also offer him the chance to rebuild his career in the second tier. Ranger has been told that he has little prospect of first-team football at St James’ Park. And with United certain to bring in another striker before the start of the season, there is also the potential for him to fall even further down the Magpies’ pecking order. He is certainly attracting interest but the fact that United want to move him on permanently is putting off potential suitors. So far the only team to make a bid to take him permanently is Blackpool, who had an offer in excess of £1million accepted earlier in the summer transfer window. Negotiations with the Tangerines broke down over personal terms, however, and Ranger left for the Low Countries with Newcastle’s reserve team earlier in the month. He scored during their tour of Holland but there is no way back for the striker at Newcastle. Manager Pardew was furious when photographs emerged of Ranger holding a gun at the end of the season, and has told the player he will not be featuring in the first team next season. Indeed, the feeling of those close to Ranger is that he needs a prolonged run of first-team football next season, which prompted an appeal to United to let him go out on loan. But that fell on deaf ears. That situation may change as the transfer window winds down – but talk of approaches by Bolton and West Ham appear to be premature at this stage. Meanwhile, representatives of Jermain Defoe (pictured right) have indicated that the Spurs striker would not be interested in a move to the North East. Pardew would love to bring the England forward to St James’ Park to play alongside Demba Ba, but Defoe’s unwillingness to move to Tyneside appears to torpedo any chance of a move that would also require the green light from Mike Ashley. So far, United’s owner has turned away from signing experienced players on long contracts and it would be a major change of direction from Newcastle if they were to enter the race for Defoe.
