LeazesMag 0
is on tonight at 2200 BBC2, followed by a documentary "Brian Clough, the greatest manager England never had". The first programme, which I've seen before, is about his 44 days as manager of Leeds. I think Michael Speen and Timothy Spall do well in the roles of Clough and Taylor, but the family of Billy Bremner were supposedly very upset at the portrayal of the late BB, as were some of the Leeds players. Who are we to know how truthful it is, but I think the portrayal of Johnny Giles is a crap one, personally - he was a small Irish bloke but is played by someone about 7 foot tall for starters, and not very Irish either. Other than that, worth a watch, especially for those who are maybe interested in Clough and was before their time. The documentary afterwards could be good though, I'll have the recorder going and put it onto a disk, I think, if its good, and keep it.

LeazesMag 0
didnt the Clough family distance themselves from the film too ? been meaning to see it for ages, the prog after should be good value like I think they did, Barbara Clough wasn't very happy either. I've actually got a book [another one] which Barbara said is the best one about Clough and Taylor she has seen, but I haven't read it yet. Maybe there is more in there, because it was published in 2010

LoveTheBobby 1
I lived in Nottingham for a fair few years that included end of his Forest reign and used to go to few games here n there and got to know some Forest lads so got a bit of an affinity with the 'Tricky Trees' . Was always canny although they can border on being one of the moaniest sets of fans ive known .

dbsweeney 0
Not seen the film. The book is a fictionalised biography ... aiming to show the mindset of Clough. Real or not, It's a great read. How does the film compare? Edited June 5, 2011 by dbsweeney
CleeToonFan 1
Didn't Nigel stop the bus and make his players walk the last 100 yards(?) at Leeds last season?

Barney 0
Good film, if factually a bit of a mess. Giles fucking hates the film.

Mr Gittes 0
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Provided-You-Dont-...e/dp/0007247109 Fantastic read, can only recommend. Personally I have always been a fan of characters like Clough, Fergie, Paisley, Mourinho, even Revie (who may have been a cunt, but his carreer was fascinating nonetheless). The film is entertaining, the book (the Damned United) is ok, but far too fictional. It's always difficult to mix facts and fiction iyam.

Wouldn't have a word said about Forest by anybody without arguing, mind he actually played football and knew about the game, but used to go to Nottingham now and again but not the game, didn't even go when they played Leeds [living and working in Scarborough], when they played Newcastle I would have brought him up with me but didn't he want to know, unlike a mate who was a Leeds supporter and came with me when we played Leeds [and won haha enjoyable drive back]
Barney 0
One of the lads I played ball with was at Forest for about 5 years and Cloughie took a personal interest in him and when in between digs, lived with Clough for a few months. Said he had some great stories, including Clough punching him in the face after catching him drinking.
LoveTheBobby 1
sat with a leeds fan in their end when we played them under Gullit . solano 0-1 i think . only funny thing about leeds was "y can stick ya sexy football up yer arse" . i never uttered a word all game - really hateful bunch of apes . pre match some kid sparked an older fella for mistakenly standing at his seat . they were fighting amongst themselves in burger queue n allsorts . went off by the buses , mounted police, coaches bricked . proper knuckle scrapers . That's what I've linked before aye, I've got that book as well. I'm just as fascinated by Taylor and his ability to spot players as Clough to be honest, its interesting to read some of the things he says about it, but it still takes a genius to spot some of the players he did. Dr Kenneth Noisewater 0
didnt the Clough family distance themselves from the film too ? been meaning to see it for ages, the prog after should be good value like The book is a lot darker than the film. Goes deeper into his insecurities, drinking problems and liking for cash-filled envelopes. I can see why the family wouldn't like it. The book and the film are both great, as was the man himself.
