That's a hell of a topic dredge. :D

Worth it, if only for this nugget.

This wife was also on about the taxi drivers being asked not to refer to Christmas but to say festive period instead! Basically not specify the particular occasion, so next time Ramadam comes round I expect not to hear a peep out of the Jews then?????

How about simplifying it to 'no more comedy panel shows'?

More homemade videos of emos lip synching to Bowling for Soup?

I'm all for more funny women on panel shows, as long as they avoid;

Korsandi

Osho

Yashere

Vidal

Who haven't an ounce of originality between them.

This could have been the best post you've ever written ;)

But you missed out Miranda.

I've never thought Mock the week was "boyish" - as others have said the problem is they keep getting shit female comics on it.

PC shit like this also means years more of Miranda.

Comedy is at it's best when they're on the edge, the Beeb don't want Frankie Boyle leaving audience (and fellow comedians) doubled over laughing, they want McInty're banal beige comfort. McIntyre is the Aston Villa of stand up and I hope he falls into a vat of hot piss on a daily basis.

There are far more men who'll say/think "I don't find any female comedians funny" than there are women who'll say/think "I don't find any male comedians funny". The public gets what the public (thinks it) wants.

The funniest female comedian on telly at the moment is Sarah Millican.

There's definitely a dearth of female comics, but is that because there are barriers to entry or that most on the current touring circuit are just shit?

There's a few theories;

They struggle with the more combative crowds, they struggle with promoters because it's a bit of an old boys club, those that do make it (get on tv) create expectations of future female comics that is unhelpful to progress, women just aren't as funny, and so on

personally I think it is changing, but it's just doing so slowly

Heard quite a few women say the same, mind.

Millican is just a rebranded Jo Brand.

Anyhow, this thread. I was young when I made my first entry on it, and am distinctly middle aged now. Weird.

Why do you say that?
