How did you come to that conclusion Tom? I'd say he's a good manager, at the same level as say Moyes.

 

 

Don't understand that picture, but I'll explain what I meant. Whilst at Blackburn he did wonders with no money (unlike Moyes, who could spunk the odd £8-15m on someone like Fellani in one window) and quickly turned around a team that was flying towards relegation under Souness. At Man City, he tried to build up the quality of the squad over time, and the Arabs wanted to sign Kaka 'yesterday' for £300m and £400,000 p/w wages, i.e. the complete opposite of Hughes' approach. He was sacked and replaced by Mancini who is no better, but is Italian and not Welsh.

 

The errors in character he has are:

 

1. Seems to have little loyalty, and moves club a fair amount.

2. Doesn't tend to bring on the youth players much, and would rather plug a gap with a journeyman on a Bosman.

Whilst I'm glad they spent so much on Santa Cruz, and would say Lescott was looking the business at Everton, both did turn out bad buys. However, how much has Mancini wasted since he took over? Or if you want an example from Blackburn, Woy Hodgson?

Hughes is a decent manager but I wouldn't put him up there with Moyes or even Martin O'Neill. I think a lot of people dont rate him at all because he was a prick as a player which is a tad unfair.

O'Neill was good at Leicester and Celtic, but he was pretty average at Villa, and did waste a lot of money. Personally, I'd have either Hughes, Moyes or O'Neill ahead of the tit in charge at Rovers. And I believe all 3 are better than Old Rapey.

Yup, both clubs currently have puppet managers as far as I can tell. Rapey has done reasonably well at continuing Hughton's good work so far. Kean looks totally out of his depth, if Samba and/or Jones go I'd be very worried for Blakcburn who are a club I've always admired.

We can cope with one going, since we have Givet and Nelsen, but both would fuck us up completely. It would be like losing Shearer and Ferdinand for you in the mid to late 1990's, and then expecting them to be replaced with Ostenstadt and Brian Deane.

Not being a dick, but if they don't give him the money to make improvements and replacements I could see you lot struggling and if that's the case Kean'll be gone by Xmas.

I remember that pre-season friendly (Ibrox?) when Darren Peacock came of age as a Newcastle player and he gave Hughes a taste of his own medicine. Great to watch Hughes having the cheek to moan about someone dishing it out to him. Great player all the same though and a canny manager to boot. Can't see the Chelsea link being anything other than 2+2=5 though.

He's a terrible sport when being interviewed. When he was at Man City, he was always looking to blame officials etc instead of holding his hands up when he was at fault. Although tbf, it's rare that managers do that nowadays anyway.

 

We've been lucky in the respect that in the past 20 years we've had Robson, Keegan and Hughton.

He almost was, when he was managing Blackburn. The story goes that he and the Taffia wanted to leave because the Walker Trust were starving him of money, and wouldn't let him sign Liassa Diarra who went to Portsmouth. However, you were not allowed permission to negotiate with him by the Trust. I think this was when TheBigSam was hired by Newcastle, or fired.
