Have Bolton played ‘attractive football’ this season?

Very interesting article if anyone's interested. I for myself don't think Coyle has done anything special at Bolton, when you consider they have finished 14th and lost their FAC semi against a limited Stoke side 5-0.

Yes, they may have progressed a bit as far as their approach is concerned, but certainly not as much as many people believe.

"Fantastic season", as some of the press commented? Utter garbage.

Thought they looked a canny side at the start of the season when Elmander and Holden were performing.

Holden's injury later in the season could be sort of an excuse, but the massive praise they get is stunning. Like Scott Parker (player of the season my arse) getting his arse licked by the London press.

Elmander was pretty shit at Bolton especially considering they paid over £8 million for him. He got hyped at the start of the season because he nearly had a 1 in 2 record, but other than that his goal scoring was pretty terrible - he went pretty much an entire year without scoring a league goal, and didn't get many assists either.

Got them playing better football than they did for sure. But with Kevin Davis in your team you are still going to play the long ball. He has defiantly got them playing with different options though.

However their form dipped second half of the season. They also lost Holden in March and he seemed to be pretty key for them.

Sums it up pretty well for me.

Still, it's shocking how lazy football reporters are, stating how Bolton have been playing a nice "pass-and-move-football". That's crap. They have at times, but they are still playing to their strengths.

They were 9th the morning of the last games tbf.

...and 6th with 8 games to go. Allardyce reckoned he should get the Real Madrid job for that feat.

Their long ball reliance is not just because of Davies (though it helps to have someone who makes a good target), but also because they don't have players who can play the ball out of defense.

If Enrique and Coloccini go for us our long ball numbers will jump exponentially. Can you imagine a back four of Perch - Saylor - Willo - Simpson? I suppose it we be worthy or rejoice when they cleared the ball rather than stuffing it up somehow.

They were in deep shit when Coyle took over from Megson. He's done a good job spending very little money thus far.

Yes, a decent job under the circumstances, but not more or even anything special/magical as some people have claimed.

Btw, doing better than Megson is not that difficult... ;)

Good point. Which makes the idea of Cahill playing in a Arsenal side even more baffling...?
