Formations

Cant find the other thread where I brought this up but for those "professors" of the game, what are the difficulties you see in us playing a 451 or 433 formation next season.

Im sure I read somewhere that 433 is Pardews preference and wonder if the sort of players we are being linked with would fit into one sytem of the other, better.

Krul

Simpson -- Taylor -- Collocini -- Enrique/other

Barton ----- Tiote ----- Cabaye

Gervinho --------- Ben-Arfa

Gameiro

Might make sense to wait till we know who is coming in and who is leaving, but then again you're not a sensible person when it comes to football.

Baa Baa

You always want to wait until after an event :D

Pardew likes 433, he's talked about getting pacy exciting players in. Surely you are capable of a viewpoint on the positives or negatives of football formations without having to wait until we take to the field.

Apologies if you're just stalling while you luck it up on football manager.

I admire your blind optimism. We wont get all three of those players.

Doesnt look as exciting with Lovenkrands and Shola though

However....

The Sunday Sun journalist who has had the Cabaye story since Thursday has tweeted...

@BeloEmre VC seems certain. Gerv 65-35 (!), Gam 50-50

Optimism maybe, but not blind.

So window to date, our best starting 11 for next season would be....?

Krul

Simpson -- Taylor -- Collocini -- Enrique

Barton -- Tiote -- Cabaye -- Jonas

BenArfa

Shola

Subs: Forster - Best - Nolan - Ferguson - Williamson

What's the point?

You're just playing fantasy football.

The point  was to have some discussions about formations for next season given Pardews inklings for 433 and the various opinions on whether it was likely, whether we had the people to play it and whether it would give us a more exciting style of play.

Nolan needs to be in any side we start. Hugely influential, keeps possession well, scores important goals. Cabaye's got a job if he's replacing him in people's teams.

Nolans influence is massive both on the field and off the field

People don't know what theyre talking about if they think he should be hoyyed onto the subs bench and replaced

I've no idea what he's like since I've never seen him play. Much like yourself. I'm going off the proof of Nolan's importance to NUFC and he needs to play IMO.

So you would leave Cabaye out?

What if Barton stays and we get a pacy right winger, do Tiote and Barton start or would you leave Barton out and Nolan in? Is he that important?

Aye!

If you think Nolan needs dropped for an unproven Premier League player? You're fuckin' mental tbh

Difficult (though not impossible it would seem) to assess the pros and cons of a player you haven't seen play.

i'm going to be honest here, i've seen nowt of any of these players we're being linked with so have no idea whether they're going to be good enough to start ahead of the likes of barton or nolan. plus we haven't signed any of them. plus we don't know whether barton or nolan are going yet or not.

we should resurrect this thread in early september. for now, it's kind of a pointless guessing game.

Regardless of whether reading about any of these players can sway you one way or the other, one thing is certain.

Pardew or more importantly Ashley are not going to fork out millions for bench warmers.

How many midfielders do you think Ashley will allow Pardew to have on the books. Theres quite a few. Some will be easier to move on than others and some will be a lot cheaper to keep as bench warmers than others.

Some naive people around if you cant see how this looks as though its going to pan out.

I think it depends on what formation Pardew is playing come next season, because i believe Barton will leave by the summer from being forced out and i think if that happens a 4-3-3 formation will probably come about

Im hoping the way things are looking arn't true, but i really think the base of our team will be gradually broken down

  • 2 weeks later...

So, to date, we are kicking off the new season with this team???

Krul

Simpson Taylor Coloccini Enrique

Tiote

Barton Cabaye Jonas

Ben-Arfa

Ba

However they way Mark Douglas is getting excited about transfer targets told to him, I still think others will arrive who will displace people in this line up.
