Johan Cabaye clocks up miles for NUFC

NEWCASTLE United covered 63.47 miles in their game against Swansea. Johan Cabaye covered 7.28 miles against Swansea, the highest for NUFC and of any player in the Barclays Premier League last weekend.

Gabriel Obertan completed nine dribbles for Newcastle against Swansea, a performance which is in the top 20 top dribbling displays so far this season.

Having stepped into Newcastle’s defence in light of injuries, Davide Santon won eight tackles and didn’t lose any, the highest total in last weekend’s games.

Demba Ba had eight shots at goal against Swansea, without hitting the net, the highest number of any player in the last set of fixtures. Despite that, Ba is still Newcastle’s top ranked player in the EA SPORTS Player Performance Index in 9th place.

Cheick Tiote completed 38 passes in the opponents’ half in the game against Swansea, the joint second highest total of any player in the last games.

Chronny

What counts as completing a dribble these days then? Running up to the defender then turning back around and passing backwards to the fullback?

Yohan says sorry for Fulham.

YOHAN CABAYE has issued an apology to the Toon Army following Newcastle United’s capitulation at Craven Cottage.

The French midfielder was visibly irked by Newcastle’s second-half surrender on the banks of the Thames.

But he felt the need to offer an explanation to the swarm of black and white that descended on the capital hoping to see United continue their great start to 2012.

Cabaye – who has spent the last two nights with his team-mates in Tenerife at a warm-weather training camp – was open and honest in his assessment.

And yet he had the fans at heart when he told the Chronicle: “I apologise to them. I don’t know what to say, it’s difficult for us.

“It was a very bad afternoon for us. It was like there were two games in 90 minutes.

“In the first half we played very well and in the second, we played very badly and were very poor with and without the ball.

“I don’t know why, but maybe we thought the game was won at half-time.

“In the end we lost 5-2 and it was very, very bad.

“We are still very disappointed with ourselves.”

Cabaye, though, gave the impression of a man desperate to make amends and, should United book their place in the last 16 of the FA Cup next weekend at Brighton, the season could again have a different more positive complexion.

The France international said: “We just have to forget Fulham now and look forward – as long as we learn from it.

“We have the FA Cup next weekend at Brighton and this for us is a massive objective.

“We have to be ready for the game, we just need to learn from the defeat and keep working at it.”

Cabaye and his team-mates will now spend a week training in the Canaries where they will pick up the pieces of the defeat, with team bonding one of the big themes of the trip.

The former Lille ace hopes that United can rediscover the dressing room harmony that has guided them to sixth in the Premier League table.

Of the Fulham defeat, he added: “I don’t know quite what happened.

“The only thing I do know is that we didn’t play with the same spirit in the second half.

“We have to learn from that second half. We have to work to improve, we can’t play like we did in the second half ever again.”

He can't exactly say 'We're fucked against balls over the top so I hope that doesn't happen again' though can he?

I'm sure they will analyse what happened and hopefully, on the back of the Chelsea match which was much the same, Pardew will learn something.

Having a bit of a whinge about the auld fella from QPR there today too.

His challenge on the turnip at Anfield was worse though.

why does that need to keep being brought up whenever the one by Derry is mentioned?

Spearings on Dembele was a fucking shocking challenge too (ball or not)

lets send Cabaye to apologise to Dembele and then we can stop mentioning it

I must admit to being a bit disappointed in Cabaye. When. I saw him at Darlington I thought he was going to be the new Rob Lee with strong tackling and edge of the box goals.

As the season has wore on, this attacking side of his game seems almost to have disappeared. I honestly he thought he would have had loads of goals from around the box by now.

Iirc, the game when he did score from free play, he had had several edge of the box shots before the goal.

Anyone think he's being told to reign in that side of his game or is it just him settling in???

I think Pardew's turned him into a static, sideways passer.
