Rob W 0
Like all Americans he is US Centric - the Rapture is set for the US 21st - which is somewhat later than the rest of us Informed theological opinion here is that the "Saved" will depart first and, like all bureaucracies, it may be several weeks before you are notified if you are damned - after all one expects a lot more of the later than the former (The Latter Day Saints set a cap of 120,000 I think with a sort of substitutes bench for the "saved but over #120,000") -and we have not been informed (whatever Apple think) of the IT capabilities of Heaven - bad enough if it's scrolls etc but if we're back to Moses chipping out 120,000 records, security passes, canteen chits etc is going to take some time You might, if you live in say Bartlesville Oklahoma, notice the roads are quieter and you can get to the front at McDonalds a bit faster but I have to say around here the number of the saved is likely to be on the small side............................... Billy Castell 0
"Australia is our pit canary"-Danny Baker this morning. So it'll be 6pm in central USA, which I'm guessing will be about 10-11pm here. At least Blackburn Rovers will finish up in the Premier League when the world ends. However, there are a few questions: 1. Will animals/plants/germs be saved, or face eternal damnation? 2. If an accident occurs due to someone being 'saved' whilst driving, will the insurance companies pay out? Or will they use the act of god clause? 3. When people are being saved, will they be beamed up like on Star Trek? Or float into space? 4. What about any life in the rest of the universe? Would that be included? 5. Will the lawyers for 'CTB' sue God if he doesn't go to heaven?

Billy Castell 0
Do you think this bloke who predicted this will not answer his phone etc. if he's still here? Surely he'll have to leave town and disappear to keep up the pretence that he's gone to heaven.

Kevin S. Assilleekunt 1
Rapture: Harold Camping issues new apocalypse date The evangelical broadcaster who left followers crestfallen by his failed prediction that last Saturday would be Judgement Day says he miscalculated. Harold Camping said it had "dawned" on him that God would spare humanity "hell on Earth for five months" and the apocalypse would happen on 21 October. Mr Camping said he felt "terrible" about his mistake. But he said he could not give financial advice to those who spent their life savings in the belief the end was nigh. Mr Camping had predicted that on 21 May, true believers would be swept up to heaven while a giant earthquake would bring destruction for those left behind. His independent ministry, Family Radio International, spent millions of dollars on broadcasts, billboards and campaign vehicles to publicise the prediction. Some followers donated their life savings or simply gave away their worldly possessions as the day approached. Pedestrians walk past a banner with a message that reads "Judgement Day May 21, 2011" at a street in Manila on 21 May, 2011 The predicted doomsday was publicised worldwide Many expressed bewilderment and shock as the day came and went with no sign of the global cataclysm. "I've been mocked and scoffed and cursed at," said Jeff Hopkins, a retired TV producer in New York state who spent some of his savings customising his car to showcase Mr Camping's warning. "It's like getting slapped in the face." 'Not accurate' Mr Camping had not been seen since Saturday until he appeared on a show on his Open Forum radio show, broadcast from Oakland, California, on Monday to give a 90-minute sometimes rambling presentation that included a question-and-answer session with reporters. He said that when his prediction had failed to materialise he felt so terrible that he took refuge in a motel with his wife. He said sorry for not having the dates "worked out as accurately as I could have". Over the weekend, he said, he had returned to the scripture and it had "dawned" on him that a "merciful and compassionate God" would spare humanity by compressing the apocalyptic destruction into a shorter time frame. But he insisted 21 October had always been the end-point of his own chronology - or at least his own latest chronology, as a previous prophecy that the apocalypse would strike in 1994 also failed to come to pass. Asked if he had any advice to offer those who had given away their material wealth in the belief the world was about to end, Mr Camping said they would cope. "We just had a great recession. There's lots of people who lost their jobs, lots of people who lost their houses... and somehow they all survived," he said. "We're not in the business of giving any financial advice," he added. "We're in the business of telling people maybe there is someone you can talk to, and that's God." From the Beeb ;)
NJS 4446
Extract of a quality rant by PZ Myers: Sure, everyone is laughing at Harold Camping now, except his followers, who are undeterred. But you're missing the real joke. Look at every Abrahamic religion, with their myths of prophets and favored peoples and fate. Look at the crazy conservative church in your town, that preaches homophobia and anti-science and supports Israel because of the Armageddon prophecy. Look at the liberal Christian church down the street from you that has the nice Vacation Bible School and puts on happy plays for the older kids, and also teaches that one day you will stand before a great god and be judged. Look at your family members who blithely believe in death as a mini-apocalypse, in which they will be magically translated into another realm, again to be judged. It's the very same rot, the poison of religion that twists minds away from reality and fastens them on hellish bogeymen. They're demented fuckwits, every one, and the big lie rests right on the fundamental beliefs of supernaturalism and deities, not on the ephemera of one crank's bizarre interpretations.
