NUFC eyeing Stephen Warnock

Recommended Posts

STEPHEN WARNOCK is understood to be interesting Newcastle United.

The Magpies are also continuing to monitor the situation of Malaga’s La Liga hotshot Jose Salomon Rondon, with the Venezuela international looking odds on to quit the Spanish outfit this summer after a superb campaign.

Left-back Warnock is also thought to be on the radar of his old club Liverpool. But with the Merseysiders heavily linked with Jose Enrique, the 29-year-old could offer the Magpies a viable and experienced option in their back four.

The Chronicle understands that Bolton Wanderers are also in the hunt for Warnock after the England international fell out of favour with Gerard Houllier, just like his club-mate Stephen Ireland who was eventually farmed out on loan to United.

A source at Villa Park said: “It’s pretty obvious that Stephen has no future at Villa while Gerard Houllier is here and it is now all about who comes in for him this summer.”

Warnock has not appeared for Villa since the 4-0 thrashing away to Manchester City in January and has since been reduced to the role of reserve-team player just months after playing for England against France at Wembley.

Warnock has two years left to run of his contract but could be available for a cut-price fee of considerably less than the £6m that Villa paid Blackburn for him two years ago.

United’s policy this summer is simple according to Alan Pardew, with the Toon boss stating: “We’re in the market for good players.”

Like all Premier League bosses, Pardew is hardly likely to expose his transfer shortlist, especially with the race to bring in new blood hotting up.

However, the addition of Rondon could provide the exciting type of centre-forward that would appeal to United fans.

The 21-year-old striker has already been linked with Newcastle in the Spanish media, but there has been no shortage of interest from bigger clubs in La Liga.

Rondon’s 14 goals in 29 La Liga outings have helped stave off the threat of relegation at Malaga, with two goals in his last two games coinciding with victories over Hercules and away to Atletico Madrid.

Rondon began his career with Aragua FC in his native Venezuela before a switch to Spain with Las Palmas, where he bagged 10 goals in 46 games.

Last summer he joined Malaga for 3.5m, but Malaga’s reputation as a selling club in Spain suggests they would not stand in his way if the right bid came in this summer.

Rondon has four years left of his contract with Malaga and, when asked about his future, he said: “I'm doing my job.

“I am grateful to the club and focused on trying to score goals."

I'd have Warnock definitely but this other kid, I've never heard of tbh.

Rondon would be an awesome signing. By awesome signing I mean that Chelsea have signed him on my Football Manager game and he scored against me.

Don't know what his form has been like at Villa, but he was good when he was with us. He occaisionally got caught out of position and then make desperate lunges in the penalty area, but he was otherwise good.

He's been performing at 79s on my fifa game.

Imagine how good you'd be if you had Shearer, Mads Jorgenson from AGF, and Kennedy Bakirloglu from Hammarby around the 2000/01 season. They were brilliant in Championship manager.

CT will be delighted with a few desperate sliding tackles.

Is a average player. Would only take him if this was beefing up the squad as he has played centre midfield and I think left midfield. However it would be more than likely just replacing Jose.
